Music Blog: Girls, We Run This

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

As the Queen B herself plainly proclaims in the assertive anthem, Run the World (Girls): “girls, we run this.” We can crown veteran vocalists like Beyonce, Adele and Florence Welch as somewhat music royalty; however, other lyrical ladies on the scene contend, forcing throne expansion. Some of these gems have newly appeared on the grid while others are simply returning with fresh material, proving once again that women wield great power in the music realm.

From reemerging artists like twin duo, Tegan and Sara, sophomore star, Ellie Goulding and Canadian comeback, Lights, to breakout acts like the sister trio, Haim, and songstress/multi-instrumentalist, Alex Winston, the future looks bright for the femme fatales stealing the mic.

Meaghan craves music almost as much as a good cup of coffee or a bagel smothered with cream cheese. Therefore, her most significant contribution to HerCampus arises once a week via her "Music Blog" section. Through this column, Meaghan hopes to inform and excite readers, introducing them to a variety of new music and music-related topics. Although difficult to decipher her crystal ball's contents, she would love to be working towards an outlet that combines design, writing, music, fashion, art and entertainment in the future. Obsessions also include the color pink and quoting her favorite films.
