The title of my article seems super straightforward, which is correct. This article isn’t necessarily to complain and have a woe as me feeling, but just to say that life isn’t always going to be sunshine and rainbows. If life was always sunshine and rainbows, then I wouldn’t be writing this article. I’m not going to lie and say that I haven’t thought life was sunshine and rainbows, but that was before I went to college.

I’m sure we can all agree that college has us go through hoops to be the best. College also gives you a wake-up call on the fact that you need to figure out what you’re doing once you graduate. I’m sure all of our parents at one time or another has said “Make sure you pick a useful degree” or they’ve asked, “Do you know what you’re going to do with your life after graduation?” I’m sure they don’t realize it, but for at least me when my parents say or ask things like this, it makes me feel stressed. It makes me feel stressed because there’s this unknown pressure they’ve placed and makes me question career choices.

There have been many times where I’ve had no idea what I’m doing and if this major is the right path for me. There are times where I’ve thought “Yes, this is the major for me and I can see a career in this for the rest of my life.” So if I’ve felt that way about a career, then I shouldn’t feel stressed right? It stresses me because I’ll think that maybe it’s not really for me. The thoughts of not wanting to disappoint my family, hating my job later on, or not even having a job after college is nerve racking. It honestly goes back to my parents telling me not to pick a degree that isn’t useful aka a degree that won’t get me a legit job after graduation that isn’t Target.

Okay, so enough making some of you question what you’re doing with your life since that was not the point of this article. The point of this article was to maybe put some fire under your ass and making you think about what you want to do, in case you might have been cruising through college. You can continue to go through a bunch of majors and find one that you know 100% is what you want to do right now at this moment. There will be a time later down the road where you decide to get out of the job you have and switch to a different career path. Life is never going to be easy and that’s okay. Life is going to put you through a rollercoaster of high points, low points, and you just cruising through.  It’s what we do during times that suck because we can either wallow or try to make it a high point.
