Katrina Sholeen always knew she wanted to pursue art. It came natural to
her and that is why she is majoring in Studio Art. She said, “I pretty much
made my choice in high school because I took art classes every chance I
got.”  She is majoring in Studio Art because she enjoys the laid back
atmosphere it has and it is more hands on and less about being in a
classroom.  She explained, “It is the only thing I was good at besides sports, and
I never intended to be a professional athlete.”

She did not want to try to become a professional athlete because it is not a career
with a lot of openings and there are only a select few that actually make it at the professional level.  She runs middle distance and hurdles in track and does karate. She has been
doing Karate for thirteen years and she has achieved her black belt.  The black belt in
Karate is the highest level and is big accomplishment.

Going back to her love of art, she states, “I really like working with the figure and portraiture because of the diversity of expression and movement we are capable of and that
even if you ask two subjects to do the exact same thing the end result
will always be completely unique.”

She goes to the traditional direction when it comes to art. She says she
is always amazed by the precision with which people like the Greeks or the
old masters bring life into the human figure. She said, “Not just with the
human form but they are able to manipulate their medium to express any
form or texture they desire.”
So as Katrina draws inspiration from the art of the masters, she sets forth to make her own mark on the art world.
