Creative & Cheap DIY Projects

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

Over winter break, take time to relax, unwind, and let out your creative side with these creative and fun do-it-yourself projects! From many hours spent on stumbleupon.com, there are so many easy projects we all can do without breaking the bank. Most importantly, you’ll have a new one-of-a-kind piece to sport on campus or at a night out on the town.

Watermark Tee

I’m in love with this idea and can’t wait to try it out soon! All you need is a bottle of Elmer’s glue, a plain tee or tank, and a bottle of RIT dye. This project takes 4 hours at the most, and that is because you need to let the glue dry on the shirt before you can dye it. This costs about $12-$15, depending on what type of shirt you get. This is cute and unique!

Crayon Art

Spruce up your room with this amazing and extremely easy crayon art! All you need is crayons of whatever color you choose, glue, a canvas, and a hair-dryer. Something as simple as crayons and a little heat can make this awesome creation! Around $20 and a little work are the only things standing between you and this masterpiece.

String Art

This project is the most complicated, but my favorite by far! Pick a word, phrase, or even your name and display it as art in your house or room. What you need is nails, a piece of wood, paint, and string. A smaller replica could be made easier just using a ruler, but the artist for this picture used an overhead projection to trace the image. Not necessary, a steady hand and a few stencils can give you the same effect. This runs about $15-$35 depending on how big you make it and the type of string and paint you use.

The Ultimate Cookie-Brownie

Not exactly a craft project, but do-it-yourself nonetheless! This combination of brownie, oreos, and cookie dough looks absolutely delicious. Make this yummy treat while you work on your watermark tee, crayon art, or other fun DIY projects you find! Enjoy!
