I Tried These Lip Products So You Didn’t Have To

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Finding the perfect lipstick that matches the event you are going to is a difficult task. The most difficult part of this process is all the money you spent on lipsticks that you didn’t know if they were a perfect match for you. I tested out a variety of lipsticks, so you didn’t have to.

1. Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Oil

I was a little confused and skeptical when I saw that the tip of this lip oil was a brush. Nevertheless, when I applied this I was pleasantly surprised.

Pros:

  • If you’re looking for a shiny lip gloss, this is the one for you
  • Burt’s has many natural looking options so it’s good for any every day look
  • It lasts for a long time so you won’t have to buy it after a couple of weeks
  • It’s made out of all natural ingredients

Cons:

  • At $8.99, it’s not the cheapest lipstick out there
  • It leaves your lips feeling sticky
  • It’s easy to accidentally apply too much

2. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

I tried this on the recommendation of a friend and was pleasantly surprised at the high quality lip cream I purchased. Once it dried, it stayed on my lips all night and didn’t come off even when I ate and drank.

Pros:

  • This lipstick is great for a night out on the town
  • It comes in many different shades
  • You can get it on Amazon for $4.49, it’s not too expensive and can fit into your budget

Cons:

  • It takes a few minutes for it to dry
  • During those few minutes you better not eat, drink or even think about touching anything with your lips
  • It gets in your teeth easily

3. Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm

This has been an essential in my lip care routine for years now. My favorite part of using this product is how long lasting it is and how it comes in a variety of colors.

Pros:

  • It comes in many different colors so it is a good fit for you if you want plain, sparkling or tinted lip balm
  • It stays on for a long time, keeping your lips shiny, moisturized and unchapped
  • Smells good and tastes good

Cons:

  • It only works to reduce dry lips, and doesn’t provide full relief
  • It’s pretty average as far as lip balms go

4.  Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick

Rimmel London isn’t my go- to brand of cosmetics, but I would definitely buy this lipstick again.

Pros:

  • It doesn’t cost a lot of money. You can get it off Amazon for $3-$7.
  • Keeps lips moist and healthy
  • Smells nice
  • Creamy and smooth look

Cons:

  • Doesn’t last long, it was tedious to have to reapply at many points throughout the day
  • Some of the colors are different than expected

5. Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes Lip Color

When I tried this lipstick, I was a little skeptical that I would look like I had on too much makeup and look crazy. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the natural look it gave me.

Pros:

  • It doesn’t cost a lot of money, with it being $5.59 at Target
  • It comes in a lot of colors from nude to statement colors
  • It’s easy to apply and remove
  • It’s long lasting

Cons:

  • It doesn’t get on your teeth, but it will get on everything else that you come into contact with
  • Some of the colors I tried were not what I was expecting
  • One of the lipsticks I purchased looked used so I promptly returned
