How to Have Movie Night in Your Dorm

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

It can be difficult to get comfortable with a group of friends in a cramped dorm room when you’re looking for a chill night in, especially during finals. Here are some of the best gadgets, snacks, and tools to have on hand for the best dorm movie night experience:

1. Viewing
The pocket projector is a great investment if you’re a movie night junkie. Instead of everyone trying to huddle around a laptop, a pocket projector allows the bare cinderblock walls to transform into large-scale theater screen for much more comfortable viewing. If you’re looking for a cheaper option, connect your laptop to a TV using an HMDI cable. Use the TV in your dorm’s common room if you have one, and invite other people on your floor to make it an event for all of you to enjoy together.

2. Seating
Collapsible and compact yet comfortable seating arrangements are a must for the ideal dorm movie night experience. Beanbag chairs are a cozy option if you happen to have any excess space in your room. If your room is a tad on the small side and you want to maximize the limited space, check out these unique waffle chairs from Target. If sitting on the floor is your only option, keep a couple extra throw blankets and pillows on hand for maximum comfort.

3. Eating
Skip the standard microwave popcorn, and switch things up a bit with a snack like microwave nachos instead. Spread out plain tortilla chips on a plate, top them with salsa and shredded cheese, and microwave your cheesy concoction for a minute and 30 seconds. If you want to satisfy that sweet tooth, try ice cream sundaes. Grab a couple pints of ice cream, and ask your friends to each contribute ice cream toppings to maximize deliciousness.
