Gator Glam: Transitioning Your Summer Wardrobe to Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Sometimes it seems like just when you figured out your wardrobe for one season, the next one begins, and you haven’t had enough time to enjoy your new closet. But the truth is: you can enjoy that new maxi skirt you just got on sale or that pastel-colored satchel and still look season-appropriate for a while longer. Here are just a few ways to take your favorite summer staples to the next level this fall.

1. Add tights or knee-high socks
One of the simplest ways to extend the life of your favorite mini skirt and high-waisted shorts is by adding a pair of tights or over-the-knee socks. This small addition to your outfit will let you show some leg and stay warm as the weather begins to shift. Look for tights or socks in a fun color or print if you want to make it a little more interesting.

2. Layer your favorite pieces
Don’t look over those maxi dresses and skirts on sale just because summer is almost over. Add your favorite sweater or cardigan to any summer dress for a cozy, autumn look, and finish it off with a pair of boots. Another option is to add a chambray or long-sleeved button on top or under a dress to create a new look for your fall wardrobe.

3. Keep your pastels around
It looks like those mint greens and lilacs are not constricted to just spring and summer anymore. Feel free to wear your lighter pieces against darker ones for a cool, chic contrast as the weather starts to change.

4. Pull out those scarves
A scarf will be your best friend on those days when you want to wear a tank top but also need to keep warm. They’ll make your entire outfit look a little warmer and more dressed up. With all the different styles and color choices available, you’ll be sure to find a go-to scarf for your personal style in the coming months.

Fashion is always changing, but that doesn’t mean you have to stop wearing your favorite dress or accessory once the next season hits. Sometimes, it just takes a bit of addition or subtraction of an item to make an outfit more seasonally appropriate. Stay beautiful, collegiettes™!
