24 Thoughts Every Night Owl Has

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Although I know I’m not the only night owl out there, sometimes I feel like I’m the only person awake. This is usually what goes through my brain on those nights when I just can’t seem to fall asleep.

10 p.m. is just the beginning. There are still roughly five hours until sleeping. Now what?I think I’ll watch interviews of every celebrity I’ve ever liked, ever.

An hour has passed and it’s time I find a new task. I think I’ll curl my hair and sample different hairstyles.

Midnight rolls around and my friends have stopped responding one by one in the group texts.

I’m left with but only a few fellow night owls.

I take it upon myself to create Spotify playlists in the hopes of lulling myself to sleep.

There is little success with the playlists.

I give up and move on to listening to One Direction.I switch to YouTube and watch their music videos and all the ones in the “recommended” bar next to the video.

Now it’s 1 a.m., and I wonder why I was cursed to live this life.

I’m hungry but unsure if it’s worth getting out of my bed to get a snack.

The Pringles are calling my name.

I answer. I reluctantly get out of bed and promptly rejoice after being reminded how delicious they are.

I move over to Netflix and knock out an episode of whatever my most recent show is. Currently: Mad Men.

Being a night owl does have its perks though. I have several more hours to binge-watch my shows than the average folk.

I decide that I should attempt to sleep.

My mind opts to remind me of every embarrassing thing I’ve ever done.

I begin to overanalyze everything in my life.

I play Candy Crush for roughly half an hour to distract myself.

I send requests for additional lives to my friends with no more than a faint glimmer of hope that I’ll receive one.

A miracle has happened! I’ve been given a life! (Oh, the irony.)

This allows me to advance three additional levels, and I put away my phone, extremely pleased.

I’ve already started thinking about my morning coffee as I fall asleep.

The time check leaves me at after 3 a.m., and I brace myself for waking up for my 9:30 a.m. class.

To my fellow night owls: You are not alone. The night is a time for creativity, so embrace it!
