To quote just about every main character in the Star Wars films, “I have a bad feeling about this.”
On Thursday, March 5th 2015, Harrison Ford was forced to crash-land his World War II era plane on a golf course near Santa Monica. The 72 year-old actor, known for his iconic roles in the Indiana Jones and Star Wars franchises, was flying his plane over the Santa Monica area when his plane suffered an engine malfunction. He planned on returning to the airport where he initially started his flight, but the plane was going down too quickly for him to make it all the way back.
Ford landed the plane on a near-by golf course where he was assisted by bystanders, one of them (at least) being a doctor. Soon after he was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where he is currently being treated for cuts on his face and some broken bones in his pelvis and ankle. Fortunately, he is expected to make a full recovery.
According to experts, Ford may be lucky to be alive due to the nature of the crash. NTSB investigator Jones, however, noted that a very skilled pilot should be capable of guiding a plane down for an emergency landing. After seeing how Harrison handled the crash, Jones stated, “this pilot is an experienced pilot.” Looks like his skills flying didn’t stop with the Millennium Falcon!
May the Force be With You, Harrison, and we all wish you a speedy recovery!
