Campus Celebrity: Margo Winchester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

Meet this week’s Campus Celebrity, Margo Winchester! Margo is a 4th Year Psychology major with a Theater minor who really knows how to light up the stage. When she isn’t hitting the books, Margo spends her time with her sorority sisters and has participated in a number of HOOLIGAN Theatre Company shows including Titanic, Legally Blonde, and most recently Hair. Be sure to check her out when she performs in The Wedding Singer next quarter!

1. What made you want to perform on stage?

When I was younger I was really quiet, but I loved singing. My middle school didn’t have any sort of choir so being in musicals was the best way to go. After my first show, I was hooked! How else can you act like an idiot and not have to worry about people judging you? Since then I’ve participated in as many shows as possible. I look at theater as a way to break out of my comfort zone and learn something new about myself.

2. What is your favorite musical and why?

The question every theater kid dreads. I cycle through favorite shows a lot, but one that I always go back to is The Phantom of the Opera. I love the music, the costumes are gorgeous, and the chandelier is fantastic. I think it’s awesome how the show focuses partly on the power of music. I feel like a lot of shows just use music as a way to grab the audiences’ attention, but music seems to be more than that in Phantom. It was also the first musical I loved that wasn’t Disney, and that will always make it special to me.

3. What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to pretend that I read, but if I’m being honest, I watch Netflix a lot (probably more than I should). I also like to hang out with friends from HOOLIGAN and my sorority. We like to eat together, see musicals, and watch Netflix! By now I’m sure you’re noticing a trend that involves Netflix.

4. If you could travel though time and space to meet anyone that you wanted, who would you chose?

Oh my goodness gracious. That’s a tough one. I feel like this question gets asked a lot, but I never think about it. I’m just going to say the first person that comes to mind. Paris Hilton. No! I take it back! I’m sorry. There was too much pressure! But actually. I think I would like to go 100 years into the future and talk to a big name involved in entertainment. I think it would be really interesting to see how much the entertainment industry, and the world in general, had changed.

5. What is your favorite thing to do in Westwood?

Eat. I love to eat. I’m actually really obsessed with TLT right now. It’s delicious. I can’t get enough. One time I had it twice in one day. Eating is an art and I’m a dedicated artist.

6. What is something most people don’t know about you?

When I go home for break and my parents aren’t around, I like to do sock slides in my kitchen.

Born and raised in Southern California, Ashley Farmer is a fourth year Communication Studies major with her eyes set on law school. When she isn't binge-watching something on Netflix, she spends her free time hanging out with her Kappa Delta sisters, crafting, and wearing more pink than anybody should.
