Is it Thursday? Because we’re throwing it back a few years.  Season 1 episode 10 of As Told By Ginger: The one where Ginger and friends want to wear makeup for an upcoming school picture day.  Not only are the girls forbidden to wear makeup but also they just don’t have to money to purchase it on their own.  In conclusion, the girls come up with “fake-up” thanks to help from a beauty magazine included with recipes for makeup made from all-natural household products.

Is it embarrassing that this episode was inspiring to me?  I’m always looking for alternatives to harmful products, and lets just face it, although cosmetics are a gift sent from god, we can all agree that our body would be much happier without a film of gunk on us.  This being said, here are a few of my favorite all natural cosmetic recipes that can be make from items laying around in your pantry.

Charcoal and Coconut Oil Eyeliner

A girl needs some eyeliner for her smokey eye.  All you need is one teaspoon of melted coconut oil and one 280 mg capsule of activated charcoal.  Just mix together and store in an empty eye shadow pot. Voila!

Beet Lip and Cheek Stain

Ever sat back and admired the vibrant color of a beet?  All that’s needed for these rosy cheeks and pout is one beet and three tablespoons vegetable glycerin (can be found at Whole Foods).  Just peel and dice the beet, add ingredients to a heated pot and allow simmering for 20 minutes.  Remove pot from the heat and drain liquid into any container.  Allow mixture to cool completely before applying with a cotton ball of cosmetic sponge.

Hint: The longer you simmer the concoction, the bolder the color.  Refrigerate mixture for a long lasting product.

Spicy Bronzer

Here’s a bronzer that’ll smell good enough to eat.  You will need ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, cocoa powder, and cornstarch.  Mix ingredients together.  More cinnamon will result in more of a glow, and more cocoa powder will result in a darker shade.  Play around until you find your desired color and store in any empty container.

Easy Eye Make-Up Remover

Now it’s time to remove your makeup.  Here’s an recipe for eye-makeup remover.  All that’s needed is two ounces of witch hazel, I got mine from Walgreens, and equal part of olive oil.  After a long day, shake the container and soak a cotton ball in the mixture.  Just as effective, without all the harsh products.
