Reading Between the Lines: 5 Must-Read Novels for Your Winter Quarter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

As winter quarter sets in, so does the sun. The days are shorter and the weather is colder. While all of these rainy days could mean the end of sunny weather strolls, they also signal the chance to curl up in bed with a warm mug of hot cocoa and a good read.

1. Hopeless by Colleen Hoover

This romance novel in which high school senior Sky falls for the mysterious Dean Holder reveals the trials and tribulations of a relationship where one uncovers devastating secrets regarding the dark past of the other.

2. Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

Another heart-wrenching romance by Colleen Hoover, this novel follows the passionate relationship between Sydney and Ridge, showcasing the power that one’s music can have on another where words have no place.

3. Whatever Life Throws at You by Julie Cross

Sports may be a game, but love isn’t. United by their experience in the world of sports, track-and-field star Annie and Kansas City Royals pitcher Jason Brody show what it really means to avoid a curveball in this emotional tale of forbidden love.

4. Halfway Perfect by Julie Cross

In modeling, the picture may seem perfect, but what happens behind the camera often isn’t. As ex-model Eve’s resentment for the industry causes her to shift from the girl in front of the camera to the girl behind it, Julie Cross shows how fate can often place you right where you started – except this time, for love rather than work.

5. Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen

Forced to live with her sister after her mother’s alcohol and drug addictions leave her disabled, Ruby Cooper and neighbor Nate Cross realize that while tragedies often tear families apart, their commonalities often have the ability to bring two people together as well.
