In case you haven’t been keeping up with The Voice this season (which is fair, considering I haven’t fully followed a singing competition since Carrie Underwood in ’05), let me catch you up. The show is currently in the midst of the live shows, after having completed its many rounds of blind auditions, battles, knockouts, and play-offs. Each of the remaining contestants is immensely talented, but it is clear that Noah Mac has something more than just talent. I know, because I’ve purchased each of his performances from iTunes – and I haven’t downloaded anything from iTunes since Glee was in its prime.
You can see how much he loves music

Noah’s pure, unadulterated love for music shines through in each of his performances. His soul is on full display, and it’s absolutely enchanting. Prior to competing on The Voice, Noah posted cover videos on his YouTube channel and released a self-produced EP titled Light (which, can I just say, is incredible). His style is incredibly refreshing – his website details it as “a modern raw indie sound influenced by old school rhythm and blues,” which is the perfect description. Noah is very open about his love for creating music – in fact, he has arranged many of his Voice performances, right down to the nitty gritty bits of it.
Heartbreaking events from his past motivate him, but in no way define him

When Noah was just 7 years old, his older sister, Stevie, tragically succumbed to cancer. He performed for the first time at her funeral, singing one of her favorite songs. His sister’s death in no way hindered him, but rather gave him a lifelong motivation and serves as his inspiration. He discovered his love (and talent) for music and has been pursuing it ever since. However, Noah is not defined by this event; he draws from it and pays it homage, but his music is entirely his own.
He engages with his followers

Noah is very active on his social media sites, as he regularly responds to messages and comments on his Facebook and Instagram pages. And, if he does not reply, he “likes” comments, letting the writer know he saw it and that he appreciates them. Despite his numbers jumping up by the thousands week by week, he remains humble. By engaging with his fans, Noah is also strategically savvy – a fan who feels closer to an artist is much more likely to go out of their way to vote for them.
He recognizes his privilege

Noah is a cis white male, and he is aware of it. He recognizes the privileges that have been allotted to him and strives to use these opportunities to help those who aren’t as fortunate. His captions on Instagram often relate to this topic, giving these issues a platform that would otherwise be unavailable to them.
Last but not least… he’s adorable ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I mean, let’s be honest, it’s pretty hard to be impartial to someone who looks like him. I originally felt super creepy because he was 17 when he auditioned, but he’s 18 now, so I’m only slightly creepy, right? Nonetheless, he’s the most adorable person ever, and I want to protect him at all costs.
