Birthday: I was born on December 30th, 1989! I’m still an 80’s baby!

Her Campus: What year are you now at UCR and what is your major?
Hoa: I’m currently in my last year here at UCR majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis on Marketing.

Her Campus: Hometown?
Hoa: I was born in Houston, Texas but I’ve lived here in Ontario, California practically my entire life, so I guess this is my hometown!

Her Campus: What’s the best part of being a highlander, and the worst?
Hoa: The one thing I love about UCR is the easy atmosphere here and just how easy it is to get along with people – everyone’s just really nice and friendly. BUT, what I actually hate about going to school in the high desert is that when it gets cold, it gets ridiculously cold and when it gets hot, its….HOT!

Her Campus: When you have a conversation with someone, what do you hope they walk away thinking of you?
Hoa: I always want people to be able to walk away from a conversation with me with the impression that I was absolutely genuine and nothing less.

Her Campus: If you had to choose another time period to live in which would you choose and why?
Hoa: Whichever era the Spartans lived in, that’s the era I want to be in! The movie 300 was such a badass movie in so many aspects. It was just a great depiction of Spartan skill and craft when it came to warfare. I wanna be a Spartan when I grow up!

Her Campus: What do you think are the great challenges facing our generation? What is your personal life challenge?
Hoa: For our particular generation, I’d have to say the horrible economic recession we’ve been in and having to endure some of its effects not only in the job market but also as college students. With massive layoffs and staggering unemployment rates, we’re pretty much competing with much older, experienced individuals for the same entry level positions. Education wise, we’ve witnessed some of the greatest tuition hikes in history and it’s absolutely ridiculous. I honestly fear for our future generations and their ability to access higher level education due to the deteriorating economy and federal aid. Up until this point, I’ve always aligned my personal life challenges with education and career achievements. So to really break it down into simple terms, I’ve ‘challenged’ myself to obtain my MBA before the age of 27 and retire my mother at the age of 30.

Her Campus: About yourself, what would you say is your best quality and what about it makes it special?
Hoa: Well aside from my good hair style (it’s actually nonexistent), I guess it’s gotta be my personality, I’m a very relaxed and chill guy. I also have a pretty big sense of humor so I’m really able to get along with anybody and everybody. I’m not a big fan of being uptight and serious all the time, no one likes being around people like that!

Her Campus: Who would you say is your style icon and why?
Hoa: I’d have to say it’s got to be Ryan Gosling. If anyone’s seen the movie Crazy, Stupid, Love then I shouldn’t even have to explain! His sense of style and fashion was absolutely phenomenal in that movie. My perspective on how I dressed changed drastically after that movie; I literally got up and went shopping afterwards. (laughs)

Her Campus: When it comes to style, what advice would you give guys on campus?
Hoa: Coming from a guy who used to wear his pajamas to school, I’m utterly embarrassed looking back (lol). For all of my guys, definitely put some time and effort into choosing your daily wardrobe! Nothing is classier than a man who takes care of himself. Try trading in those jeans and sneakers for some slacks and dress shoes. Go the extra mile towards making yourself presentable. We definitely appreciate women who take time to take care of themselves; well it works both ways fellas!

Her Campus: If you could splurge on anything you wanted, what would it be? and why?
Hoa: Anyone that knows me knows that I am addicted to watches – big watches! If I had the opportunity to splurge, I’d go to Macys and clean out their entire watch collection (hahahah). A nice watch adds a nice touch of class to your wardrobe, especially if you’re rocking a suit, t-shirt, or whatever you may. So I guess I’m branching off from what I said about taking care of yourself, you gotta take care of your wrist, son!

Her Campus: What is a perfect day in the life of Hoa Bui?
Hoa:A nice candlelit dinner and a long walk on the beach with my girlfriend. Lol

Her Campus: Relationship status?
Hoa: I’m currently happily taken by my beautiful girlfriend, the Ms. Porsche Alexandra Guasch, who is also a Highlander here. I love you babe!

Her Campus: What is the first thing you notice about someone you deem as attractive?
Hoa: Well, the first thing I noticed about my now-girlfriend was her smile. It was really the most captivating and enamoring smile I’ve ever seen and it automatically made me that much more attracted to her. It was almost as good as my smile. (jk!)

Her Campus: What is the biggest turn-off in a guy/girl?
Hoa: The biggest turn off in a girl for me is someone who doesn’t have a sense of humor, at all. I can’t be around someone who’s uptight and doesn’t like to laugh. I have a pretty childish sense of humor and can be utterly sarcastic at times so it’s nice to be around people who can feed off that kind of energy and throw something back at me too.

Her Campus: What music are you into right now?
Hoa: I’ve always been a huge R&B and trance junkie, but I pretty much listen to almost every kind of genre, even country! But lately I’ve been brushing up on alot of my 80’s music because that’s all my girlfriend listens to.

Her Campus: Favorite film, TV Show, book, magazine?
Hoa: Definitely love all the Transformers series, and can’t forget the Harry Potter! I’ve recently started watching TI&Tiny’s The Family Hustle on VH1 and it’s pretty addicting!

Her Campus: Life philosophy?
Hoa: I’m actually going to take this quote from my brother, which I live by – “Never settle for good enough, because then your life will always be just, good enough”
