This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Irvine chapter.

Did you know that UCI had its very own rock star on campus? Joseph Vincent is a musician whose YouTube videos have over 11 million views. Joseph is well on his way to becoming the next big thing, but even the famous have to start somewhere. And (gasp) they even attend all the same classes that normal students do. Joe is currently a fourth year here at UC Irvine studying Public Health Policy, but he has bigger dreams of becoming an international recording artist. Not only does he go to school and plan on graduating this June, but he also balances his music career between the endless amounts midterms and finals. He catches up on homework during the week, and during the weekends, he plays a show or two or works in the studio on his newest song or project.

Joseph Vincent got his start from his YouTube page that he created during the summer of 2007 (check it out! http://www.youtube.com/user/hoorahjencar). Somewhere between recording older covers like “Rude Boy” by Rihanna, and more recent covers such as Grenade by Bruno Mars, his dreams came true. During the 4th week of Winter Quarter 2011, he toured Melbourne and Sydney in Australia and had a full crowd every night for three shows: “I was lucky enough to be graced with a full crowd every night for three shows and the best feeling for me was when I came around to singing the last song of my set which was my original song ‘If You Stay,’ and the people in the crowd knew all the words and were singing along with me. It was the first time ever and I’ll never forget it.”

Joseph Vincent caught his big break in April 2010 when he was featured on NBCs The Ellen Degeneres Show for their Wonderful Web of Wonderment segment. In this segment, Ellen searches for new talent to compete to be the next Internet sensation. Joseph was sent a message via YouTube during Spring 2010 to be on Ellen’s show and he performed an acoustic cover of IYAZ’s “Replay.” Although he did not win the original Wonderful Web of Wonderment competition, a couple weeks later he was invited back, but this time as a featured performer. He covered Mike Posner’s new single, “Cooler Than Me,” and at the end of the show Ellen surprised Joseph Vincent with a $10,000 dollar check to help jumpstart his music career.

The sky’s the limit for this talented singer and performer who recently just got signed to the record label Catch Adventures. Dreams really do come true when you “don’t stop believin’”. Maybe someday soon we’ll be hearing Joseph Vincent’s new single on the radio! Check out Joseph Vincent’s newest song “If You Stay” here: http://www.youtube.com/user/hoorahjencar#p/u/0/MIVu-egUMM0
