It’s No Wonder Critics Have Been Raving About Wonder Woman

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

It’s easy to see that the recently released DC movie, Wonder Woman, has hit the charts in terms of interest, profit, and ratings that are predicted to continue growing.

That being said, why is it that we are all so enthralled by Diana Prince? Heads up, no spoilers!

  1. It’s undeniable that the actress, Gal Gadot, has embodied the role wonderfully.

Let it be known that although she is already a successful fashion model from Israel, this is one of Gadot’s first major roles in the film industry. She is not only has a fantastic accent but her emotions felt raw and all too real at moments.

2. Most superheroes we know are characters that are good by default. Wonder Woman is one of the few that has to make the choice herself.

When her ideals are shattered, she has every opportunity to choose what she believes in and it’s clear that she struggles before making the ultimate decision.

3.  The humor is subtle unlike a lot of the recent superhero movies.

If you’re a fan of light humor, you’ll know that the recent movies with superhero collaborations have been contaminated with a lot of not-so-hilarious humor inserts. “Try-hard” humor, if you will. However, Wonder Woman has been so successful on this aspect in inserting humor so subtly that you can’t help but laugh at any given moment.

4. There is more to the story than romance! For once.

In fact, the romance is really really limited in the film but the certain scenes with Chris Pine will really get to you deep down WITHOUT the excessive cheese.

This is a must-watch film, even by Rotten Tomatoes’ standards!

As a senior undergraduate, I seek out all opportunities that expand my horizons, with the aim of developing professionally and deepening my vision of how I can positively impact the world around me. While most of my career aims revolve around healthcare and medicine, I enjoy producing content that is informative, engaging, and motivating.  In the past few years, I have immersed myself in the health field through working at a private surgical clinic, refining my skills as a research assistant in both wet-lab and clinical settings, shadowing surgeons in a hospital abroad, serving different communities with health-oriented nonprofits, and currently, exploring the pharmaceutical industry through an internship in clinical operations.  Career goals aside, I place my whole mind and soul in everything that I pursue whether that be interacting with patients in hospice, consistently improving in fitness PR’s, tutoring children in piano, or engaging my creativity through the arts. Given all the individuals that I have yet to learn from and all the opportunities that I have yet to encounter in this journey, I recognize that I have much room and capacity for growth. Her Campus is a platform that challenges me to consistently engage with my community and to simultaneously cultivate self-expression.
