5 Thoughts That Anxious People Have On a Daily

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

From being an anxious person in general, I am beyond familiar with the thoughts and emotions that arise on a daily. For others who are lucky enough to be in a zen-peaceful mode most of the time, these thoughts may be entirely foreign. If you know anyone with anxious tendencies, do not be quick to judge; instead, understand that everyone has different temperaments and there are pros and cons of both. Here are a few thoughts that recur over and over again, most definitely during stressful periods such as dead week.

1. My phone is only 65% charged. Oh my goodness. It’s going to die before I can do this or that or this and that. And that.

2. I need all my books. Literally all my textbooks, I might need it but probably not. But I definitely need to carry my whole life with me, just in case.

3. How should I approach that person? Should I even? Should I say hi or actually, I’ll just pretend I didn’t see them.

4. Let me plan out every literal second of my day so that if everything goes according to plan, everything will be perfect.

5. It’s two minutes before the time we planned to meet. Is he coming or not? I thought we said 5:30p.m. and it’s 5:29 and I don’t see him anywhere.

For those like me that are anxious, remember that you can relax sometimes. While it’s crazily hard to stop worrying, the stress you are putting on yourself hinders so much in your relationships, physical and mental health, and ability to put your entire self out there.

As a senior undergraduate, I seek out all opportunities that expand my horizons, with the aim of developing professionally and deepening my vision of how I can positively impact the world around me. While most of my career aims revolve around healthcare and medicine, I enjoy producing content that is informative, engaging, and motivating.  In the past few years, I have immersed myself in the health field through working at a private surgical clinic, refining my skills as a research assistant in both wet-lab and clinical settings, shadowing surgeons in a hospital abroad, serving different communities with health-oriented nonprofits, and currently, exploring the pharmaceutical industry through an internship in clinical operations.  Career goals aside, I place my whole mind and soul in everything that I pursue whether that be interacting with patients in hospice, consistently improving in fitness PR’s, tutoring children in piano, or engaging my creativity through the arts. Given all the individuals that I have yet to learn from and all the opportunities that I have yet to encounter in this journey, I recognize that I have much room and capacity for growth. Her Campus is a platform that challenges me to consistently engage with my community and to simultaneously cultivate self-expression.
