Why Being Born in December is the Best/Worst

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UBC chapter.

Having my birthday close to Christmas is awesome. I was born on the 22nd of December in 1997 at 11.30 pm. My family received me inside of a boot (literally).

A lot of people believe this is the worst time to have a birthday. When I was younger, I would always get upset that I will never go to school as the Birthday Girl, as we were always out of school for the holiday break. Now, I am grateful for it. Not only do I avoid having my birthday in Finals Season as we finish on the 20th (phew!) but I’m also free of any responsibilities!

My brother is also born in December. That meant receiving a birthday-Christmas combo gift. Don’t get me wrong, my parents always gave us really nice gifts, but unlike other people we only received one. Also, all of our friends and family members were busy around that time so our birthday parties were celebrated one month after our b-day.

Everything related to my birthday is associated with Christmas. Everyone is always festive around this time which makes it even more fun. When people give me gifts wrapped in Christmas paper, they can’t decide if it is a birthday or Christmas gift.  Most of my closest family members also have their birthday in December, so every weekend there is a new celebration.

Overall, I think being born in December is the best. Even though everyone is extremely busy and all restaurants are packed, it is still fun to be part of the craziness that are the holidays.

Happy Holidays to everyone!
