A Show to Check Out: Pi Theatre’s Long Division

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UBC chapter.

With final exam period almost over, it is the perfect time to take a break and treat your self! Although Pi Theatre’s production of Long Division is a mathematical experience – we promise that you will not be tested at the end. From April 26 – 30th at Vancouver’s Annex Theatre for only $25 a ticket, you can get the chance to witness a performance that brings math to life in a unique, and entertaining, way.

Long Division follows the story of seven diverse characters that are tied together because of a singular, traumatic incident (no spoilers here – have to see the performance to find out what)! Through the use of number theory, geometry, and logic, the characters strive and struggle to understand why their stories are interconnected and to find an answer to the question that they all share. To tell this intelligent and emotional story, the production combines multimedia and physical theatre into one spectacular performance.

It is truly incredible what mathematics can tell us about our world and how it works. Long Division brings this idea to life onstage when it displays how math can be used to discover the patterns that connects us and to see our relationships from different angles. If you see this production, there is no doubt that you will walk out with a different understanding of your world and the role that math plays in it.

Make sure to buy your tickets to Long Division while it is still at the Annex Theatre! See you at the theatre, HCUBC cuties!
