What to Do if You’re Single this Valentine’s Day Weekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Penn chapter.

February 14th, also known as Valentine’s Day, has served as an annual reminder to me that I am single yet again.  A national holiday devoted to PDA, cheesy Hallmark cards, and bouquets of red roses leaves single people everywhere feeling a little awkward, bitter and lonely. Instead of wallowing in self- pity, I decided to make the most of my weekend and embrace the fact that I’m single. Believe it or not, there are many alternatives to a candle lit dinner this Saturday night.

1) Celebrate Galentine’s Day

Leslie Knope says it best when she declares Galentine’s Day “the best day of the year.” What’s better than eating really good food with your best friends? Galentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity for girls to celebrate, regardless of their relationship status.

2) Tango Night at PMA

I’ll be the first to admit that I am an even more awkward dancer than Taylor Swift at any awards show, and the idea of taking a dance class is terrifying to say the least. But every Friday from 5-8:45, The Philadelphia Museum of Art features Tango Night as one of many Art After 5 programs. For $17 you can basically become the Salsa Dancer emoji.

3) Drool over Jamie Dornan’s abs

Basically every girl has been waiting for 50 Shades of Grey to come out in theaters. The perfectly timed movie release means that you can sit in a theater, double fisting popcorn and Red Vines, watching Jamie Dornan for 2 hours.  I honestly can’t think of anything better to do with my Saturday night.

4) Embrace your true love

For some of us, there’s no denying that our one true love is a glass (or bottle) of wine. Tomorrow night the Irish Pub, at 20th and Walnut, is hosting an Anti-Valentine’s Day Desperate and Dateless party. With $5 dollar drink specials, what better way to celebrate Single Awareness Day?

5) Fast forward to February 15th

In my opinion, the best part of Valentine’s Day is actually February 15th. Raiding the shelves of CVS and buying the on-sale chocolate is my favorite way to celebrate surviving another year of singleness and another Valentine’s Day.
