TV Shows to Get Hooked On Over Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Penn chapter.

Finals are (almost) over.  No more all-nighters in the library.  Winter break is finally here, and you know what that means – time to catch up on all your tv shows that you were way to busy to watch during the semester!  But, what happens when you realize you have already watched all the episodes of your favorite shows?  This is a problem.  Don’t panic…we’re here to help. Here are four TV shows that are perfect to watch during your much-needed winter break.

Hopefully you can tear yourself away before next semester classes start.

1. New Girl (FOX) – Television comedy has been bombarded with a new type of sitcom starring young, single women (which some of us can relate to).  This sitcom, in particular, features Zooy Deschanel, who plays Jess Day, a nerdy loser who needs the assistance of her three male roommates, Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), and Winston (Lamorne Morris), to get a date.  Jess’ childhood best friend, Cece (Hannah Simone) completes the gang, as the five of them form an outrageous family who depend on one another.  If you are feeling lonely during break or missing your crazy roomies, just turn on this show to give you some entertainment.

2. Revenge (ABC) – Revenge will always be part of society.  Whether in high school or college, girls will always hold deep emotional envy and the natural thing to do is let this fiery feeling out of one’s unconscious through the act of revenge.  In this show, Emily Thorne (Emily Van Camp) returns back to the Hamptons, where her family’s reputation had been ruined years before.  Emily is willing to destroy the things that are most important to the people of this town – status, beauty, and wealth.  Snuggle up in bed and watch Emily’s revenge unfold as she takes over the Hamptons with retribution and vengeance.

3. Up All Night (NBC) – If you were rolling on the floor laughing during the movie Bridesmaids, then this show will keep you giggling for hours!  Maya Rudolph (from Saturday Night Live and Bridesmaids) plays Ava, a motivated, yet vulnerable talk-show host, who is also the boss of Reagan Brinkley (played by Christina Applegate) – a new mom, successful career woman, and energetic character.  Reagan adjusts her life with a baby and returns to work with the help of her stay-at-home-husband, Chris (Will Arnett, Arrested Development).  Sit back, relax, and laugh away as Reagan tries to balance the endless needs of Ava and the responsibilities of motherhood.

4. Homeland (Showtime) – Do you miss the excitement that would automatically take over your body when you heard the ticking of the TV as a new episode of 24 came on?  Well, the suspense is back.  The producers of 24 created an original series so 24 fans have something to talk about again.  The premise of this show is about the return of Marine Sgt. Nicholas Brody after eight years in enemy confinement.  Most people view Brody as a heroic soldier; however, CIA agent Carrie Mathison believes he has turned sides and is now working for Al Qaeda.  You’ll fully feel that America’s national security is at stake while you sit tight and experience the dangerous chase between these two powerful individuals.

There is no need to get upset when you finish all the episodes of your most beloved TV shows.  Just pick any one of these options and you will be more than satisfied.  Whether you watch these shows on your laptop with your best friend by your side or on the television surrounded by family, there is no question that you will be entertained and enjoy the experience. After finals, you deserve it!
