The 10 Best Parts About Spring in Ann Arbor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

1. Iced Coffee

You know it’s springtime when your friends start having the guts to buy ICED coffee! Knowing your hands won’t freeze to your coffee cup is really an underappreciated feeling.

2. The Arb

Warmer weather is key for a nice day in Nichols Arboretum. The sun shining makes for a great picnic in the Arb, a friendly game of catch, a run with friends, or an artsy Insta of you reading by the river.

3. Darty Season

The end of the bitter cold means it’s time to free up your Saturdays again for some weekly darties! Of course they don’t compare to football Saturdays, but they still make for a good time.

4. Walking to Class

With the sun shining, there’s no need to race to catch that Oxford shuttle or take an uber to central campus. Leave a few minutes earlier and take a nice stroll to class, embracing the fact that you’re not wearing a hat, scarf, or gloves!

5. Outdoor Workouts

You no longer can make that lame excuse of “It’s too cold to walk to the gym.” Running outside, playing basketball, or throwing around a ball with your friends are all great ways to actively enjoy the new warmer weather.

6. Doing Homework Outside

Put a towel down on the lawn and take your math homework outdoors! Basking in the sun while you do your homework will be super refreshing – and who knows, maybe you’ll get a tan!

7. Spring Attire

Some of you may have forgotten that you even owned a sundress or sandals. On those extra sunny spring days, break out your cutest flip flops and finally expose those legs again with your girly sundress and jean jacket.

8. Flowers

Spring in Ann Arbor means Mother Nature has returned with flowers blossoming and leaves budding, spreading joy for everyone. Forget about those dreary and dull looking winter days, because everything looks and smells better when it’s covered in flowers!

9. Eating Outside

Whether it’s celebrating your last paper at Charley’s or heading over to Ben and Jerry’s on Free Cone Day, eating outside makes a world of difference. Enjoying your fish bowl or ice cream cone with some fresh air is definitely a highlight of the spring weather!

10. Class Outside

This one’s not a promise, but everyone loves nice weather, so you definitely have a shot at convincing your professor to have class outdoors. Being outside with blue skies and people walking around is much better than sitting between four white walls in a stuffy classroom.
