Fall Makeup Must Haves: Everything a Collegiette Needs in Her Makeup Bag this Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

As the weather gets colder, and the leaves begin to change, your wardrobe isn’t the only thing that needs to transition from summer to fall. It’s just as important to remember to update your makeup bags as well! After all, makeup can be just as trendy and in-season as your clothing. I am here to share with you all the products I have been loving this fall, so you can stock up your makeup bags, too!

1) The Perfect Fall Eye-Shadow Palette

As the color of the leaves on the trees change, you want your eyeshadow shades to change as well. Fall is the perfect opportunity to play around with these fun, sultry colors, like a rich matte brown or maroon, or a pop of sparkly gold. The NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette in Warm Neutrals is a necessity for every girl this season. Not only is NYX a great brand because their makeup is inexpensive (something we all love as college students), but they create high quality products as well. This palette has an array of colors, both matte and sparkly, allowing you to make an endless amount of looks with just one product.

2) Liquid Lipsticks- The Bolder, The Better

Just like with your eyeshadow shades, fall means dark, vampy colors for your lips, too. All thanks to Kylie Jenner, the makeup world has said goodbye to regular lipsticks, and hello to matte liquid lipsticks. This trend has also continued into this current season, as well. Maybelline has just come out with 10 new fall 2017 shades for their Vivid Matte Liquid lipsticks collection, and they are all to die for. Although I would recommend all 10 colors, I’ve found my favorite shade this season to be Corrupt Cranberry.

3) A Dewy Foundation

Even though the fall season means warm, cozy sweaters and Pumpkin Spice Lattes, it also unfortunately means the end of our fabulous summer tan. Sadly, this also means that we have to change out our foundations for lighter shades, since our summer shade would probably be too dark now. Personally, when I am shopping for my foundation for the colder months, I look for ones that have a dewy finish and a give natural highlight, to make up for my lack of a ‘summer glow’. Another very important feature that one should look for in their fall foundation is if it moisturizes, and doesn’t dry out your skin. Season transitions, especially from warmer to cooler ones, can often leave the skin very dry, and therefore you don’t want to buy a foundation that could dry your skin out even more. An excellent drugstore option, that not only includes all these qualities, but also won’t break the bank, is the L’Oreal True Match LUMI makeup.

4) Rose Water Facial Spray- AKA a Gift from The Gods

Did you know that flawless, dewy skin can also be achieved with just one small “spritz” of a product? Crazy, I know, but Mario Badescu has created a rose water facial spray that I am convinced has been sent down from heaven. This one product acts as both a moisturizer, toner, and makeup finishing spray. You can use this product before applying your makeup, to create a moisturized, refreshed canvas for the makeup, or after, to create the much wanted, dewy finish on your foundation. This product is a necessity as we enter into these colder months of fall and winter, which is typically a difficult transition time for our skin.

5) ‘Cat Eye’ Eyeliner: A Fall Classic

It is no secret that a ‘cat eye’ eyeliner look is a fall classic. Whether, it’s simply rocking it alone with a cherry lip or with a full glam look over a bold smoky eye, like our beauty queen Jaclyn Hill demonstrates above, one could never go wrong with a fierce wing. The key to the perfect winged eyeliner, though, is the precision of the product. Therefore, my favorite eyeliner to use for this is the Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precision Ink Pen Eyeliner. The pen-like structure makes it very easy to use and control, allowing you to effortlessly make the sharpest wing.
