We’ve all heard this ancient fashion rule… no white after Labor Day. Causing us to stare at our closets for hours when we realize that we simply, cannot break the rule. Well, this time around – we’re going to be a bit more daring and still incorporate white and the way it makes us feel throughout the winter. Summer may be over but whoever made this rule wasn’t aware of how cute winter whites are! Here are a few ways to rock white into the fall and winter months… because, hey, rules are meant to be broken, right?
1. Heavier Fabrics: The biggest way to state that you are aware that it’s after Labor Day is by the fabric choices you chose to wear. Aim for heavier fabrics when wearing white in September, like chunky sweaters, wool and jeans. NO linen or silk, this makes white fall and winter friendly.

2. Accessorize: Accessories have always been able to make an outfit THAT much better without much work. In the fall and winter seasons, we live for scarves, hats, gloves and more. Choosing white accessories with common fall/winter outfits give it a little bit more attitude in just the right way.

3. White Jeans: This seems like it may be the most risky of them all because of how much attention is taken when most of the white is in a pair of jeans. However, pairing crisp white jeans in the fall – the right way can take you from daring to chic in seconds!

4. Off-White: Now, there is no rule saying you can’t wear off-white after Labor Day is there? If you don’t want to be as bold and wear the brightest whites, aim for eggshell or cream colored clothing to get around the rule. This also works best with heavier fabrics; let your off-white pieces thrive in your outerwear or even shoes!

5. Dark Accent Colors: During these colder months, our closets switch to darker colors for many reasons. Wearing darker colors along with white isn’t as scary as it seems! This could work two ways: You can either let your white shine by using darker colored accessories OR you can have your dark colors be the main focus and show your whites sparingly. Wearing maroon (GO UMASS), grey, black, or navy along with white makes for the perfect fall/winter combination.
