How is it that Adrian Thompson has not yet been featured as a Campus Celebrity at Her Campus Iowa? Well, she’s been busy acting as our fearless leader! Until she graduated this past May, Adrian acted as the Campus Correspondent for Her Campus Iowa, which is no easy feat. Now that she’s had time to take a step back from HC, we decided to finally give her the recognition she deserves.
The 22-year-old Hudson, Iowa, native graduated from Iowa in May with a major in Journalism and a minor in English. During her time at school, Adrian focused most of her energy on activities related to the career she wanted to pursue.
“Throughout my years at Iowa, I mainly stayed involved with Ed on Campus (a magazine club) and Her Campus,” she explains. “Both were great organizations that really helped me grow and create meaningful connections that related to my major.”
Adrian did so much for Her Campus Iowa in her time as Campus Correspondent, so how did she even become involved in the program?
“A friend was telling me about this website she was writing for, and I was instantly hooked because I was looking for ways to get some good clips and journalism experience. One email later, I was a member of the team and got the chance to write an assortment of articles for about half a year. Then, I became the chapter’s Campus Correspondent, which is like the editor-in-chief or manager.”
As CC, Adrian raised our staff numbers to 35 and helped our chapter to achieve Gold Level Chapter status.
The future looks so bright for Adrian. What do her plans for the future involve?
“Now, I am currently gearing up for my chapter advisor internship that starts in a few weeks. I just finished a year-long internship at Pearson and loved it, so I am going to apply for their Professional Leadership Development Program in the fall. On top of that, my boyfriend and I are getting ready to move to Colorado in a few months, too.”
And her five-year plan?
“I hope to be a communications specialist for a company that I feel passionate about, or an editor for a publishing house. I’ll probably be married, still living in Colorado, and still being obsessed with my two Bulldogs Stella & Ginny. But who knows….life changes daily, so I’m not going to be counting on anything for certain that far in the future!”
