Although everyone’s perception of beauty can differ and we all have our own style, there are a couple of ‘rules’ to makeup and beauty that every girl should follow. Here are just five of some of the most common, and most avoidable, beauty mistakes.

1. Not paying attention to your eyebrows.

People don’t realize just how much a defined brow can transform their face. Whether you want a super dramatic, bold brow or a natural one, you should always tweeze and fill them in according to your face shape. A simple grooming can go a long way when it comes to brows!

2. Applying bronzer to your entire face.

Avoiding the fake, oompa-loompa looking tan is actually really easy once you learn the rules of proper bronzing! Bronzer is meant for any part on your face that you want to give a deeper, receding effect. Typically this includes the hollows of your cheekbones (which can be found easier by making a fishy face!), your temples, and underneath your jawline. Bronzing these areas, and these areas only, will give you a warmer skin tone, more defined face structure, and the most natural looking fake tan ever!

3. Washing your hair every day.

Although you may hear this and think it’s totally gross not to wash your hair everyday, its actually a lot better to give your hair some time between washes! The natural oils in your hair make it softer, shinier, and smoother. Constantly washing them away doesn’t give them a chance to work their magic and leads to dried out hair. Going a day or two between washes can make a huge difference in the your hair’s health, but please shower your body everyday to avoid BO!

4. Applying black eyeliner to the entire rim of your eye.

At the start of high school I was all about putting black eyeliner on my waterline and tight line (the inner rims of your eyes). What I didn’t realize was that applying such a dark and dramatic color to the entire rim of my eye made my eyes appear much smaller and squintier than they really were! Try applying a nude or white liner instead of black and notice how much bigger and more awake your eyes look!

5. Skipping an eye shadow primer.

Having something to go between your eyelid and your eye shadow is super important to the longevity and pigment of your shadows! Applying an eye shadow primer (my favorites are Mac paint pots) can help your makeup last longer, without creasing or fading, and make the colors really pop!
