Best Places on Campus For an Unforgettable Date

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Delaware chapter.

Leaving for winter break back in December seems like a distant memory. Now, seven weeks later, after we packed up our bags and trekked our way to Newark, those winter blues are just about gone and we’re ready to welcome the spring semester! Finally. Once you’re all settled in, what’s a better way to welcome a new semester than to spend the night on the town (er… Main Street)?  Here are the top 5 places around our gorgeous campus that YOU should take your sweetie (or bestie, for all of us single girls out there).

1. For the Nontraditional Dates…
If the Main Street appeal has gotten boring to you, why not check out the other side of campus? Visit the Fred Rust Ice Arena (located just outside the Bob Carpenter Center) Friday-Sunday for the open ice rink.  Admission is only $8 (an additional $3 for rentals), and skating sessions are 2 hours long. Visit www.udel.edu/icearena for more information about skating your way to fun: dates AND girl’s nights out welcome.

2. For the Outdoorsy Types…
Take advantage of the beautiful Newark weather by hosting a picnic on your nearest green. From the turf at Laird Campus to the green at Gore, there are numerous beautiful options as to where you can enjoy your feast. Grab some sandwiches from NDB or Trabant and plop your blanket in the sunniest spot you can find. Enjoy some great food, and even better company in the perfect spring weather.

3. For the Athletes….
Bring out your athletic side and find out just how athletically inclined your significant other is…by playing a 2 vs. 2 volleyball or basketball game with another couple! Courts are located across from Trabant and Independence, and are a perfect way to show off your skills. To spice it up even more, losers buy a treat for the winning couple. Can you say Grotto’s Pizza? Yum.

4.  For the Adventurous Girls…
Hop on the next SEPTA or Amtrak and venture your way into Philadelphia or Washington, DC for a day trip. Enjoy the bustling cities with your girls (or love) by your side. With the prospect of historical monuments, amazing eateries and fabulous shopping at your fingertips, what else could a girl need for a day of fun? Check Amtrak.com or septa.com for when you can begin your memorable day trip.

5.  For the Traditional Dates…
Enjoy the classic “dinner and a movie” night! Start with a delicious dinner at a restaurant of your choosing on Main Street (my personal recommendation: Cucina’s- scrumptious and affordable!). After, make your way over to Trabant for a movie. SCPAB offers recently released movies every Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 and 10 for $3.  Upcoming movies include Breaking Dawn (March 2-3), The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo (April 6-7) and We Bought a Zoo (May 4-5).

Sara studies at the University of Delaware (go blue hens!), and absolutely loves it. She is currently studying communications and english with a professional writing concentration. and is fostering a developing interest in public relations after having been introduced to the field through the Public Relations Student Society of America at UD. That has inspired her to concentrate in public relations in the future, though she is a firm believer in getting a well-rounded education and taking a bunch of classes in various subjects. Wherever her education takes her, Sara has always had a passion for writing and will continue her writing in any way possible throughout the remainder of her college years and beyond! Born in New York City, she appreciates and is preparing for the fast paced lifestyle of a city girl, but enjoys the more relaxed nature of her hometown on the Jersey Shore (though she is not affiliated in any way with the cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore). Only minutes from the beach, Sara tries not to take the beautiful atmosphere for granted. Similarly, she tries not to take anything else in her life for granted, and in this sense, prides herself on her strong work ethic. She believes that when life gets tough, it’s only because something great is on the horizon. She adores music, her family and friends, movies, writing, magazines, and travel. Sara cannot wait to see what else college has in store for her, and is ready to take more risks and live with no regrets. She is beyond thrilled to be part of the Her Campus team, and looks forward to writing and editing content that focuses on an audience of college women dedicated to achieving their aspirations.
