This Is Us recounts the tragic yet beautiful life of the Pearson family: Jack, Rebecca, Kate, Kevin and Randall. Flashing back and forth between past and present, the show works with time to show insecurities, addictions, smiles, intrical moments in their lives and the wide parts of being part of a family that creates a captivating yet relatable show for all. Below are some of the moments that the show has made me cry; some exquisite, some sad and some downright tragic.

1. When Rebecca and Jack lost their third baby
2. When Randall’s biological father, William, dies
Randall and the rest of his family get to know William only for a couple months until he is unfortunately dies due to stomach cancer. Although their time with William is limited, the audience gets to know a kind, insightful, artist of a man, whose son had to watch him die, making his death even more upsetting.
3. All the times that Kate struggles with her self-esteem and weight
In the times of being bullied as a child, having insecurities as an adult and yearning to be like her skinny mom, the fans’ hearts break as they feel wide emotion for Kate.
4. When Toby has a heart attack
5. When Randall has a mental breakdown
As described by his wife: Randall is a “mountain of a man,” whose only vise is kindness. Randall was too busy trying to be the perfect man he normally is, ultimately causing a mental breakdown in the process. The way the show captures aspects of mental health like this one are extremely relatable, and that Kevin came to Randall’s side when needed cause tears in people’s eyes.
6. All the times that Jack and Rebecca give the world faith about love and marriage
7. When Kevin’s co-star in his play takes him to a real-live funeral, making him recount how he felt when his father died
8. When Randall finds out that Rebecca (his mother) knew about his biological father his whole life, without telling him
9. When Jack and Rebecca have a fight after getting back from a club she was supposed to be performing at
They say things that are incredibly hurtful. However, Jack recounts how he still loves Rebecca. Even in the midst of all their chaos, he still manages to say something kind and insightful; every girl’s dream man.
10. The beautiful father-child moments throughout the show
Jack makes sure to cater to each child differently, picking them up when they are down, pushing them to capture their dreams and making fun out of tough situations. The soft words he is able to utilize show how incredible of a parent he is, making each moment bittersweet, knowing that he ultimately dies.
11. When Jack Pearson dies
The show takes a while to get to the actual scenes of his death, but it is sad nonetheless. Jack was an incredible father, who had an epic love with his wife. The fact that he passed when the kids were only 17, and that there were no last goodbyes, makes this part a real tear-jerker.
