College Fashion Week is a Her Campus event that allows for a night full of glamour, excitment and praise. Whether you are a spectator of the crowd or participating in the show, College Fashion Week opens the opportunity for everyone in the room to feel confident about oneself. Haley Cole, a junior Fine Arts Major at the University of Connecticut, had the opportunity to model in the NYC show of College Fashion Week and I had the chance to sit down with her to hear about her night on the catwalk.
How did you find out about College Fashion Week?
I follow the Her Campus UConn Instagram and saw you post about the event. It sounded like a really interesting experience so I decided to look into it.
What made you attracted in wanting to participate?
It looked and sounded like a ton of fun!
What did you have to do in order to apply to model?
I had to send in a picture of myself and tag my name to their Her Campus page. After doing that there was a link I received that brought me to a form I had to fill out basically just giving my name, where I go to school and brief information like that. Then it asked if I had a preference for what location I wanted to model at.
If you could sum the night up into one word, what would it be?
Hectic, but in a good way
What was your favorite part about the night?
Definitely walking the runway in front of everyone. It was such a “feel-good” experience seeing everyone in the crowd cheer me on
Did you have any fears going into the show? If so, what were they?
Falling flat on my face!
What was it like behind the scenes?
It was really busy. But I have to commend all of the National Her Campus leaders for keeping everyone calm. They had a great hold on the order of everything and helped the transition of changing hair and outfits fast not seem as stressful as it could have been. Everyone behind the stage was upbeat and encouraging so it left no time for negative stress.
What was your favorite outfit?
I got to wear this really comfy jumper that made me feel as if I was in my pajamas. Around my waist was a leather jacket, which was really cute. I also got to wear these adorable heels.
What advice would you give to girls in the future who may want to sign up to participate as a model in College Fashion Week?
Absolutely go for it. It was such a rewarding experience. Especially if you have never modeled before, it was really fun and exciting being able to try it out
What did you learn about Her Campus?
Everyone on the National Her Campus Team is very motivated. The Co-Founders were so focused and it was obvious that they know exactly what they want for their business. It was inspiring to be able to see this business in action and it showed me that even when you are young you can make all your ideas and dreams come together
