Concert Review: The 2Cellos Smashed it at UConn

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

The Croatian cello duo, Stjepan Hauser and Luka Sulic, who go by the name of 2Cellos played a sold out show at the Jorgensen this past Wednesday night. The show was originally planned for last May but had to be rescheduled due to one of the cellists having a neck injury, preventing him from playing.

Many may have heard of the duo from the viral videos all over YouTube but for those who aren’t familiar with them, 2Cellos are two skilled young cellists who put on a show that is anything but boring!

They opened the concert by going back to their roots, performing two classical pieces before moving onto their famous renditions of fan favorites. They then transitioned the audience into the pop and rock genres eventually dabbling into the heavy metal tunes. By then the crowd was on their feet yelling and cheering their wild performance.

A few standouts of the night that got the crowd singing and stomping along were songs from musical legends. The group played their version of Michael Jackson hit “Smooth Criminal” – one that rose them to fame in 2011 and took the world by storm. It also had appeared on the popular TV series Glee.

In addition to this fan favorite, they took on the classic rock piece by Nirvana, “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and the famous AC/DC song “Thunderstruck” which was by far a killer!

These two rock star musicians needed nothing more than their music and their virtuosity to captivate the audience and leave thousands of people in smiles!
