Campus Celeb: Lipaz Avigal ’19

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

Lipaz Avigal, a part of the diverse class of 2019, is this week’s Campus Celeb! She embodies everything a Tulane student is: intelligent, well-rounded, and an all around fantastic human being. This past year, Lipaz took a gap year and volunteered her time in Israel; working and living in an Ethiopian neighborhood of immigrants along with 5 other Israeli volunteers, she dedicated her time to help integrate the younger Ethiopian generation into Israeli society. So cool! She answered a few questions that further prove just how awesome she is.

Hometown: Haifa, Israel. Currently: Atlanta, Georgia.

Age: 19.

Major: Not sure yet, but thinking Political Science.

Lesson learned from gap year: It’s so hard to summarize! This is so cheesy but true: Maybe that the people you surround yourself with can bring out the best form of you. Also, challenging yourself is the best way to figure out what you want and where you want to go, generally in life. It grounds you.

Best thing at Bruff: I’ve been meaning to try something, but I hope it’s actually good and I’m not misleading people! Apparently mixing coffee and the cocoa (from the cocoa machine I didn’t know existed) is absolutely delicious.

Secret Obsessions/Guilty Pleasures: Watching TLC Documentaries about people’s disorders. I’m all about My Strange Addiction! And maybe the acoustic version of Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” on the Ellen Show…don’t judge.

Favorite hangout spot in NOLA: I like the casual outing on a Friday evening at The Fly… although my friend and I went to this cool coffee shop, “Zotz” on Oak Street that we really love too. It was kind of weird but great.

One place you haven’t been in NOLA but are dying to go: I really want to go to the Ogden Museum of Southern Art but haven’t gotten the chance yet.

Fave late-night study snack: Chips and Guac, and the occasional Reese’s cup!

One thing you’re grateful to Tulane for: Tulane is constantly providing me with awesome opportunities to get involved with things i’m passionate about. I’m able to continue similar types of work that I did in my gap year which is really great.

Long term goals: After graduating, I want to look back on all the opportunities I wanted to take, and be able to say that I took them. Everything I wanted to do, I did. I want to feel like I used all of Tulane’s resources and be really happy with my experience here.
