Best of NOLA: A guide to making sure a visitor loves New Orleans as much as you do

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

Spring Break season is finally upon us and many of us are lucky enough to have friends from home making the trip down to New Orleans to pay us a visit. Exciting as it is to plan the perfect weekend for the people you miss the most, it also puts the pressure on us. We want them to understand exactly why we chose Tulane and what makes us go on and on about our love for New Orleans every time we Skype with them. That’s why I’ve put together a list of the “must-dos” for a friend’s first journey to our school! So leave all your homework until the last minute and make sure that your guest has just as much fun as you’ve had in your Tulane career packed into a single weekend…

A Good Meal

After weeks and weeks of Bruff, this one is probably the first thing on your list too. Now is the time to splurge a little and pick something you’ll both really love. Some of my favorites? The Rum House, the Gumbo Shop in the French Quarter, or if you really want to go all out, Herbsaint. Order something adventurous and savor the few meals that you don’t have to use Bruff swipes for!

A Tour of Tulane

Being here every day it’s easy to forget how insanely beautiful our campus is. Show your friend the Mardi Gras tree, the LBC quad and the Tulane sign on St. Charles. Listen to music at Fridays at the Quad or play a game of beach volleyball out front of Sharp. Show off our campus a little bit–we’ve got a lot to be proud of!

Boot Pizza

Some of you many be wondering why I didn’t include the quintessential Boot pizza under the “Good Meal” category. For those of us who go to Tulane, we’d be hard pressed to find something more delicious than a giant slice of pizza at 2 in the morning (or to be perfectly honest, any other time of day), but for out of town visitors, the idea of standing in a 20 minute line for for pizza next to a bar may be a little less than appealing. That’s why no trip to Tulane is complete without making sure that your guest has the same unending love for Boot pizza as you do.

The French Quarter

You can’t come to New Orleans without seeing one of its most famous neighborhoods. That being said, you don’t necessarily have to show your friend the French Quarter when it’s at its wild and craziest. Show your guest the cute art galleries, funny t-shirt shops, and unique architecture that make this neighborhood a must-see. And I know I must have said this a million times, but no trip to New Orleans would be complete without a foray to Cafe du Monde.

Audubon Park

How many other college students get to say that they live right across from a gorgeous park? Get back in shape after that giant slice of pizza you inhaled last night by taking a morning walk around the park and enjoying this beautiful weather that seems to have come out of nowhere.
