How to Survive This Weekend’s Polar Vortex

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Trinity chapter.

The Polar Vortex is coming, so get ready for it to feel like Antarctica up in here.

Basically this air is coming straight from the North Pole itself and pushing it to Connecticut.  Get your mittens, kids.

Protect Yourself

Break out your fluffiest down coat and throw on your leather gloves.  Get a richer, thicker moisturizer for your face because that windchill will not be kind to your delicate cheeks.  Make sure you’re fully stocked with tea because today would not be a good time to run out.

Get your Netflix queue ready

Baby, its cold outside, so stay in! As much as the warmth of all those drunk college kids at Psi U sounds enticing, that walk over is gonna be brutal.  If there was ever a weekend to stay in, its this one.  Maybe start studying for finals (ha) or maybe start watching your Christmas movies!  My personal fav: Love Actually for very obvious reasons if you’ve seen it, and if you haven’t… well what are you waiting for???

Orrrrrr, if you’re looking for a good book, try picking up The Wangs vs. The World by Jade Chang. It’s a riches to rags story that (from what I’ve heard) will have you laughing the whole story.

Give Yourself a Spa Day

Like I said, cold weather is not kind to skin, so pamper yourself!  Grab a face mask – something super hydrating.  Give yourself a winter mani-pedi – light winter greys or dark navys are really in right now so have fun with it!

Keep Warm and Layer!!

If you do hit the town this weekend, remember to layer up!! You can always remove a layer once you get to a party but for the walk over keep it warm – and maybe save that backless shirt for after January.  Most important layer: the liquor layer – kidding! Try not to get too sloshed because when we drink, it’s hard to tell if we’re cold or not which can actually be really dangerous.  Also, save a lot of trouble and take the campus shuttle.

Get creative this weekend!
