Alexa and Sasha Lazerow- The Headband Twins

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Towson chapter.

Alexa and Sasha Lazerow are extremely enthusiastic entrepreneurs. When I met them, they were working the table for Her Campus Towson’s hair tinseling event.  As they work the table, dozens of girls flock to the event, drawn by their charm, excitement, and uncanny similar looks. Sasha is beaming with pride as she tells the other girls working the event that she, “just aced her political science exam.”

As the event unfolds, they tell me that along with the many organizations they are involved with on-campus, they also maintain four jobs and near perfect GPA’s.

They work as dancers on the weekends for bat/bar mitzvahs, are promoters for off-campus events, note takers in their classes, and (most notably) own and operate a headband business.

Alexa and Sasha are twins. They created the headband business themselves two years ago.The headbands are handmade and they sell them to students, family, friends and at area events (like church bazaars). Their headbands all contain a distinct look-most contain big feathers and bows. In fact, that is the name for their business, “Feathers, Bands, and Bows.”

They have grown their business mainly due to their larger than life personalities; it seems as though they know everyone. The twins say that they wear their headbands around all the time.

“People will come up to us and say, I love your headband,” Alexa said. The business has grown exponentially through word of mouth. They have a Facebook page where girls can go and look at the headbands. They currently have hundreds of them in their inventory which they keep at their apartment in Towson.

The idea for the headbands was something  the twins say they have always wanted to do.

“We were always wearing headbands since we were little. Slowly, but surely we started growing the business. We make all the headbands ourselves during the summer and winter,”Alexa said.

While they are unsure about the future of their headband business after college, their headbands have provided them with an outlet to release stress.

“It’s the most rejuvenating thing, [making] headbands,” Alexa said. “When I got my tonsils out I was really sick, so I found making the headbands to be really relaxing.”

Alexa, who is a mass communication major with a women’s studies minor, wants to be a television broadcaster. Sasha, who is a political science major with a women’s studies minor, wants to be a lawyer.

“My dad is an eye doctor, my mom is a lawyer, my brother is a lawyer, and Sasha wants to be a lawyer,” Alexa said. “I could have been a lawyer, but I always have wanted to be a T.V. broadcaster ever since I was little.”

For now, they continue to make headbands and work while attending Towson, which they say is the, “Most amazing thing ever.”
