Hair Tips & Tricks to Lock in Moisture This Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

Let’s kiss fall goodbye and say hello winter! We all love pumpkin spice and beautiful fall leaves, but winter also has some goodies to offer. We can look forward to fuzzy sweaters, hot chocolate, fun snowball fights with our loved ones and Christmas presents. However, the approaching winter season also means that it is time to revamp our hair products. Why is this important? Well, no one wants to be known as the the girl with the “dry curly hair” at the holiday party. Don’t worry, just follow these tips and your hair will be on point at all times.

Water is your friend

The best product to keep handy is a water based leave in conditioner. The leave in conditioner will lock in all of the goodness of the shampoo and conditioner. Leave in conditioners improve the structure, manageability, and soften the texture of your hair. But buyer beware! Try to stay away from any products that uses sulfates because those are fillers that dry out your hair, and that is not the look that we are going for. A good natural product to try is Oyin Nourishing Herbal Leave-In Hair Tonic, which can be purchased for $13.99 online or in the store at Target. Online the product received 4 stars and includes ingredients such as lavender, nettle leaf, and red rose just to name a few.

Tresses n’ Oil

After using your leave-in conditioner the best way to lock in the goodness is to use an oil. Another perk is that you’re taking care of your scalp and a healthy scalp leads to healthier hair. If you have course coils, use a heavy oil such as Sunny Isle Extra Dark Castor Oil because the castor oil will coat the hair and lock in the moisture from the leave in conditioner. You can purchase the oil at Sally’s Beauty Supply Store for $8.99

If you have a looser curl pattern, a lighter oil such as Coconut Oil, which can be purchased at Walmart for $10.12. The coconut oil is an awesome hair conditioner, prevents dandruff, and strengthens all hair textures.

Cream of the crop

To top it off, a cream leave in conditioner will do your hair justice. The cream will give your curls the finishing touches because the cream will define and seal in the moisture. Cantu Leave in Conditioner only costs $4.85 at Target and the ingredients include olive oil, sage leaf extract, and shea butter. Cream leave in conditioners also prevent hair damage and repair damaged hair. Make sure your curls pop this winter by using these key techniques!
