For those of us who have yet to perfect the vixen appeal of a sultry wink, there exists a pair of sunglasses to do the job. The right pair of shades can do more than attract cute Philadelphians. They can show off your personality, provide an air of mystery and, of course, protect your precious peepers. Take your eyes off that Word document for a second and take a look at this season’s most stylish frames.
1.Cat Eye
Spotted all over the runway the Fall 2011 Fashion Week, cat eye sunglasses are sure to make every passing glance a little sexier-even when the rest of you screams bum. The cat eye frame reigned at Miu Miu Fall 2011, Givenchy Fall 2011 and a more conservative version appeared at Alice + Olivia Pre Fall 2011. However, I suggest you jump on this trend a season early because, well, its just so darn darling! A forewarning however, these shades are quite seductive. Tone down the sex appeal with less overtly feminine pieces. I’m feeling some distressed denim either in the form of pants or a jacket and a dash of stripes in a boxy top. Let the shape of the sunglasses do the talking here and stay away from frames with bright colors or loud patterns.

2. Circle Frames
The oversize frames of seasons past are shrinking this spring. Luckily these frames add the same perfect pinch of bohemian to your look as your enormous shades from last year. Think John Lennon instead of Jackie O. This style best suits those with a square-shaped face as the circles create an instant contrast. However, anyone can create contrast by pairing these psychedelic shades with classic, preppy pieces. Proenza Schouler showed them with soft pieces such as pastel collared blouses while Tommy Hilfiger complemented them with polo shirts and boat shoes in their spring 2011 lines. I’m loving them paired with a crisp button down and dark skinny jeans. Contrast is key with these. Wear other hippie-esque pieces and you may look like you just stole a Janis Joplin costume from Party City.

3. Quirky Wayfarers
All you lovely collegiettes probably have a solid pair of these rectangular shades stashed in your accessories drawer already, so you’re halfway there to this season’s spin on the trend. Patterned Wayfarers may not have dominated the spring runways in New York, but they have become the warm weather equivalent of UGG boots on campus-they’re everywhere! This shape complements most face types and can be found for $10 or less. Stand out from the masses on Liacouras this semester with a patterned pair. I am partial to the undying floral trend, so I’ll be hiding behind a pansy-doused pair on a sunny patch of Beury Beach the rest of the semester – if it ever gets warm that is!
