11 Things TCNJ’s Class of 2019 Should Know

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

Congratulations on your acceptance to TCNJ! We hope that you’re just as excited as we are to have you to join us in the fall! Here are a few words of advice we’d love to share with you before you begin your college experience.

1.     Your dorm is smaller than you think it is…you don’t really NEED that sweater that you wore once but want to bring “just in case.”

2.    As great as it seems at first, you’ll eventually get sick of dining hall food.  Don’t be afraid to get creative and be resourceful.  Creating your own dishes helps keeps things exciting.

3.     Welcome Week is tons of fun, but 7 a.m. breakfast wake up calls can leave you exhausted.  Don’t let that stop you from staying up late at night and enjoying every moment.

4.     TCNJ’s campus is gorgeous.  Don’t forget to take some time to yourself and jog or walk around the loop or go sit by the lake for a while to de-stress during a hectic week

5.     Caffeine will become one of your new best friends.

6.     Muha and Eve are the two most important people you’ll meet at TCNJ.  And if you get a smile from Big Larry on your way in or out of Eick, you know it’s going be a great day.

7.     Living in the towers will add a lot of excitement to your life.

8.     Go to all events, trips, lectures, meetings and seminars that you’re interested in! TCNJ plans so much for students, and there’s usually free food and goodies at them. Take advantage of anything free.

9.     We abbreviate everything here… don’t fight it.

10.   Beware of the Activities Fair. You’re going to want to sign up for everything, which is great, but just know that once you sign up you will probably be getting weekly emails from each student organization for the next four years…

11.    Enjoy every moment your freshman year. Get your work and studying done ahead of time so you can go on spontaneous adventures with friends. Don’t think you’re too cool to follow TCNJ traditions. Jump in the science complex fountain, sit on the hotspot by the library in the middle of the night and do things you may not have thought of doing before. You’ll meet some of your closest friends and make the best memories that way.
