How To Throw an Awesome Friendsgiving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TAMU chapter.

Last year, my roommate and I threw a Friendsgiving in our tiny apartment with 13 of our closest college friends. It is one of my favorite memories from my freshman year. Friendsgiving was definitely a hit, and I can’t wait to throw another one.

Here are some tips to help you throw your own amazing Friendsgiving!

1. Tell your guests far enough in advance

Start a group message and tell everyone a date and time you had in mind. Make sure you pick a day that can work for everyone.  A good time to do it is probably the weekend before Thanksgiving.

2. Make sure you have enough space for everybody

Maybe throwing a Friendsgiving in our tiny apartment wasn’t the best idea, but we made it work. Pick a place that can fit all of your guests comfortably and has plenty of cooking space and place to put food.

3. Cook the basics and ask your guests to bring the rest

We cooked the main foods, such as turkey, dressing, green beans, etc. and asked each guest to bring a dessert or side dish. We also put all of this in the group message so nobody would accidentally bring the same thing.

4. Decorate

It really feels like a Friendsgiving when you decorate for it. Put up a banner or even set up a wall to take pictures at. You can find some awesome, cheap decorations at your local stores. Decorating can really help bring it all together and make it feel like fall.

5. Don’t forget the small stuff

Don’t forget to send out a reminder a couple days before, just to remind everyone when it is and what they should be bringing. Also, don’t forget about plates, silverware, and cups. Use dishes that can be easily thrown away. This helps you have enough for everybody and keeps you from having to clean so many dishes after.

6. Have fun and enjoy all the awesome food you made

It’s always great when you get to sit around, eat good food, and be with all of your friends.
