Q+A With Sarah

Why did you choose to come to Suffolk?
I transferred to Suffolk University from a small college in Salem Virginia, Roanoke College. I have always loved cities, and would definitely consider myself as more of a city girl than country girl. My admiration for cities is what intrigued me and attracted me to Suffolk University. I love being able to walk through the heart of the city to get from one class to another.  I believe that, the city is the best way to be inspired by fashion; the streets are truly your runways.

When did you first start getting into Fashion?
I became interested in Fashion at a very young age. My mom had always had a dream to start her own T-shirt Company. When I was in high school her dream came true and she started Karma Threads, a positive messaging apparel company. Sense I was interested in fashion and learning about the business I became co-founder of the company. Karma Threads introduced me to all aspects of fashion, from production to design. When I moved to Boston to attend Suffolk University I interned for a local fashion designer Sara Campbell. At Sara Campbell I worked with the PR department, learning all facets of the fashion PR industry. And finally, now I am working for The Fashion Doctors, which has allowed me to work first hand in the fashion industry and find a passion in doing so. At the Fashion Doctors, I help with every part of producing a fashion show, styling, and personal shopping.

Who are your fashion icons?
I have two fashion icons, Olivia Palermo and Rachel Zoe. I am utterly obsessed with Olivia Palermo’s style. I strive to emulate her combination of an edgy appeal while always looking put together and chic. I love how on a daily basis she could be seen in black leather skinny pants and a chic blazer.  I admire Rachel Zoe for her vintage flair. I love how Rachel Zoe has her own style and is known to add her own personal touches, like her vintage pieces. As much as I love Olivia Palermo’s leather skinnies in the winter, I love Rachel Zoe’s uniform- wide legged jean with sky-high wedges in the summer.

Where are your favorite places to shop?
My favorite stores to shop at are: Club Monaco, BCBG, Zara, H&M, and locally, Crush Boutique.

What is your favorite item of clothing that you own?
It’s hard to pick just one item of clothing that I would call my favorite but constantly find myself wearing a uniform of leather and jean. I either have my Cole Haan black leather coat, or my Tory Burch brown leather coat on with skinny jeans and a blousy top. I also live in my leather leggings from H&M. For accessories, I always have on a plethora of gold bracelets, old and vintage, with a men’s inspired watch.

Do you have any post graduation plans?
Graduating in May is definitely bittersweet. I will miss college but am excited to start what everyone calls the ‘real world’. After I graduate I will be working in the fashion industry with The Fashion Doctors.

“While being immersed in the fashion industry I obviously have an obsession for clothes, and shopping would have to be one of my favorite hobbies. I have a fixation with bracelets, bangles, and watches, preferably in gold, and can’t stop buying them. I also love going to the movies, preferably going to see a horror film, and love photography”. – Sarah Veilleux
