HC: Why did you choose to come to Suffolk University?

I went to a boarding school in Maine so when it came time to start looking at schools I knew I wanted to be in a city. Boston wasn’t the obvious choice because I had only visited a couple times over my lifetime. But when I first toured Suffolk my aunt who went to the law school came with me and it was a surreal experience for me. Being downtown in Boston, with someone I looked up to, and at school that seemed to have endless opportunities… I was sold. I felt empowered walking around Suffolk/ Boston even though I wasn’t even an official student yet. I didn’t get that feeling anywhere else.

HC: What groups are you involved in on campus?

I am the Multimedia Editor for The Suffolk Voice, a CAS 101 tutor, and a production assistant in Studio 73.

HC: How did you decide to get involved in producing? Why did it interest you?

When I became Multimedia Editor I had zero production classes under my belt. At the beginning of my sophomore year I got a work-study at Studio 73, and tried to help out with as many shows as I could. Jerry, Studio 73 Manager sent me AVID tutorials, graphic tutorials and I watched upperclassmen produce their own shows. During the second half of that year I created PopVoice. My goal was to give a place and platform for younger students to come into the studio and practice something they love. I worked mostly with freshmen and we created this show together. I came to Suffolk knowing I was a media junkie, impressed with the CJN department and already a declared Broadcast Journalist major but I didn’t expect to fall in love with the producing side of it. It interests me because I have met SO many crazy talented and amazing friends/mentors, I now have this space where I can be creative (and also just hangout in) and I’ve learned SO MUCH.

HC: What is PopVoice?

PopVoice is The Suffolk Voice’s Arts and Entertainment panel discussion based show. We film bi-weekly with a student panel and crew.

HC: What does producing a show involve?

I’m still learning/ I’m always in the process of making my show better and I get an enormous amount of help from Studio 73 guys Jerry Glendye and Brian Morriessy. BUT my job is to select the panel/crew, prepare topics, set up the studio, direct the live to tape show, create graphics, edit the show, post it and then share on social media.

HC: Is this something you see yourself doing in the future?

I love working in Studio 73 right now, but I don’t know if I’m ready yet to say that this is 100% my future. I’m still learning and figuring out my life. I’m excited for the future, but I’m not obsessed with it. I’m happy right now!

HC: Who are your role models (in the industry)?

This is a hard question! I have thousands of other role models because there are so many cool rockstar producers, writers, artists and overall human beings who make me want to be better/also be a rockstar

HC: What is your dream job?

I’m still figuring that out because it changes every 10 minutes. I think every time I take a shower I have another epiphany of what I could be when I “grow up”. But right now I’m just doing me and making decisions that are best for me right now. But if by the time I graduate Beyonce’s job is open….?
