Top 10 Spring Break 2012 Drinks

There is nothing better than laying by the pool in the hot sun with a cold drink in your hand. But which drink to choose? I’ll be helping you out with this year’s top ten most popular drinks for spring break festivities! Even better, I’ll give you the recipe on how to make these refreshing drinks for your special spring break plans!
 
1. Top on our list is the classic Margarita! This drink is perfect for BBQ’s, poolside, or those evening fiestas! 

The SkinnyGirl Margarita (185.5 Cal):

  • 2 oz of Clear Premium Tequila

  • 0.5 oz Orange Liquor
  • Juice of 1 Fresh Lime
  • Ice

Combine all ingredients over a glass of ice and garnish with a lime wedge. This drink can be blended, over ice, or cold straight up! And if feeling adventurous, add a floater tequila shot!
 
2. Second most popular drink is Sex on the Beach! This drink is great whether your on the beach or not!

  • 1.5 oz Vodka

  • 1.05 oz peach schnapps
  • 0.5 glass of orange juice
  • 0.5 glass of cranberry juice
  • Ice

   Combine all ingredients overa glass of ice and serve.

3. Our third pick is the Pina Colada! This sweet coconut drink goes perfect with dinner or dessert!

  • 3 oz light rum

  • 3 tbsp coconut cream
  • 3 tbspcrushed pineapples

 
  Put all ingredients into an electric blender with 2 cups of crushed ice.
 
4. Next is the famous Bloody Mary.This drink is excellent for morning brunch or morning hangovers! 

  • 1 oz Absolut Vodka

  • 4 dashes Worcestershire souce
  • 4 dashes Tabasco sauce
  • 2 dashes pickle juice
  • 2 dashes olive juice
  • glass of tomato juice
  • salt
  • pepper
  • celery salt

 
Add vodka, sauces, pickle juice and olive juice to a mug full of ice. Fill with tomato juice. Add salt, pepper and celery salt to taste. Pour mixture back and forth between two glasses to mix it well. Garnish with olives, celery and a slice of lime.
 
5. Mai Tai is next. The Mai tai first made it big on Elvis’s hit movie Blue Hawaii and is now one of the most popular tropical drinks.  This is a strong drink, but you can’t taste any of the alcohol! 

  • 1 tablespoon light rum

  • 1.5 teaspoons dark rum
  • 1.5 teaspoons 151 proof rum
  • 1.5 teaspoons orange curacao (orange flavored liqueur)
  • 1.5 teaspoons almond flavored syrup
  • 1.5 teaspoons simple syrup
  • 0.25 limes, juiced
  • 0.25 cup fresh orange juice

In a large jar or drink cooler, combine the light rum, dark rum, 151 rum, orange liqueur, almond syrup, simple syrup, and lime juice. Stir and top off with orange juice. Do not use grenadine if you want the true Mai Tai! Serve in 8 to 12 ounce glasses with ice.

6. For the Bahama Mama, you don’t have to be in the Bahamas to order it. This drink is great wherever and whenever!

  • 0.5 oz lemon juice

  • 2oz orange juice
  • 2oz pineapple juice
  • 1.5oz 151 rum
  • 1oz coconut rum
  • 0.5 oz Herring cherry liquor
  • 0.5 oz grenadine syrup

Shake over ice and garnish with a cherry and orange slice.
 
7. Now, if you really want to knock your socks off, order a Hurricane!

  • 1 oz Smirnoff vodka

  • 0.25 oz grenadine syrup
  • 1 oz gin
  • 1 oz light rum
  • 0.5 oz Bacardi 151 rum
  • 1 oz amaretto almond liquer
  • 1 oz triple sec
  • grapefruit juice
  • pineapple juice

 
Pour all but the juices, in order listed, into a hurricane glass three-quarters filled with ice. Fill with equal parts of grapefruit and pineapple juice, and serve.

8. Next is a Lava Flow! If you like sweet and fruity drinks, this is the drink for you! 

  • 1 ounces light rum

  • 2 ounces pineapple juice
  • 6 ounces pina colada mix (coconut cream and pineapple)
  • 1 ounce strawberry puree
  • 1 small chunk pineapple, for garnish

Blend rum, pineapple juice, and pina colada mix with 1 cup of ice. Next, take a glass and coat the inside with strawberry puree. Pour in colada blend. Finally, use a spoon to drag the strawberry puree up through the colada drink, creating a pink stripe. Garnish with a pineapple chunk, and serve.

9.  Number nine on our list is the ever popular Mojito! Not only is it Orlando Bloom’s favorite drink, but it’s also the best drink to leave you refreshed and minty!

  • 3 fresh mint sprigs

  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1.5 oz light rum
  • Club soda

Crush the lime with a fork to coat the glass inside. Add the sugar and lime juice and stir. Top with ice and add the rum and mix, the rest fill with club soda.

10. Lastly, if wanting to be simple, your drink is Captain and Coke!
