Look Out For DJ Smokey Bear!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stetson chapter.

When did you start DJing?

I started DJing last year.

How did you start DJing? Have you always been a fan of music?
I’m a big fan of all kinds of music genres and started off by playing music off my computer at the Rage Castle.

How did you get the name DJ Smokey Bear?
Smokey Bear was a nickname that I made up freshman year when I would freestyle with Jakobe at the Tree House and since then all my friends call me Smokes or Smokey and it just stuck.

What’s your favorite memory DJing?
My favorite memory would be DJing at the Rage Castle when we would through big bangers like last years Halloween party.

What events are you DJing at during the duration of the semester?
I DJed at Sig Nu’s ABC party, a lot of house parties at the Gatsby House, Redbull’s play and destroy, and Redbull/Sig Nu’s Halloween Party. And some future events I’m DJing at is the Tridelta formal and if anyone what’s or needs a DJ I’m always down to do it.

Are the songs you play created by you? What DJ do you look up too?
Sometimes I play some of my mixes that I have already mixed together but it really all depends on the crowd I usually feed off the crowd reaction. I look up to a lot of EDM artists but I also admire a lot of Rappers as well. Just anything that is high beat and makes people want to rage.

Where do you see yourself in ten years? Continuing the DJ lifestyle or moving onto something else within the music industry, or not at all?
Well I don’t know what I’m doing tomorrow so I don’t know if ill be DJing but I can see myself being a comedian doing standup.

I am currently a junior at Stetson University who is ready get things going! Growing up in D.C., I developed a keen sense for fashion, a thick skin, and a yearning for success. It was only recently that I took the leap of faith and permanently moved down to Florida, not far from where I attend school, so I could pursue my love for fashion, warm weather, and a fast-paced life. I can remember my first day at Stetson University like it was yesterday with all the chaos of meeting new friends mixed with the anxiety of new classes and nervousness of being alone for the first time, but most of all my biggest concern was the stress of figuring out how I could possibly pop out of my bubble and become what I wanted to be: the confident, successful, and driven college student who would not follow but create the trend! After two years of hard work, through becoming a part of the Greek life scene, joining many different organizations and learning from prior upperclassmen who have become successful, I have created communication and leadership skills that I am forever grateful for. With a recently new found passion for the journalistic side of life, I cannot wait to be apart of something bigger than I have ever been before so I can continue learning and gaining memorable experiences that will help me in my goal to make my lifelong dreams and aspirations come to life!
