Ole Abroad (Dan): Sushi in Cairo – Third Time’s a Charm!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

Marhaba!

This week was quite interesting. I had two midterms in Arabic and I had to figure out my paper topic for my Protest and Dissent class. I decided to do an investigation of Jordan’s history and rebellions, such as Black September and the 2011 protests in Jordan. I also have been working with my Rural Lives professor on possibly doing an independent study on peasants and pastoralists in the Arab World and the effects on their communities because of the IMF’s economic strategies in the region. I think these two research projects will both be incredibly fascinating for me.

In other news for this week I went out to dinner with three friends to an amazing sushi restaurant. It is called Mori Sushi and it is very close to my dorm in Zamalek. I ordered a Clear Seafood Soup, Sashimi Salad, and a White Fish Sashimi Platter. I was in a definite food coma after this meal as all of it was so delicious. I know all of my friends also enjoyed the food and although it was very expensive, the time we spent eating the food and laughing made up for the price paid.

Also, I am planning my trip for Eid al-Adha which is during the first two weeks of November. I am planning it with two other friends. We are thinking about either Jordan or Oman as our options. We really can’t decide which one but we know that whichever we choose it will be a lot of fun. I’ll keep all of you updated on which we choose – by my next blog post I should know.

I also found out some very terrible news this week from back home, which was that my grandmother died. It was a pretty hard week in that sense and I am trying to keep focused on school and on continuing to work on perfecting my Arabic.

Till next week.
