How to keep those New Year’s Resolutions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at South Carolina chapter.

We all made a lot of promises on January 1st, many of which include eating healthier and going to the gym more often. As second semester started up Strom was packed with new faces. People were more determined than ever to sway away from the horrid Freshman 15, Sophomore 20, the Junior Jiggle, or the Senior Saddlebags. However, only a month has passed and gym traffic has slowly trickled down as people begin to lose sight of their goal with all that piling schoolwork. Here are our tips on how to keep your New Year Resolutions, whatever they may be!

1.  Split up your goalIf you tell yourself you want to lose 30 pounds by the end of this year, make a goal for each month of how much you want to lose instead. This way it’s a little less intimidating, and you can celebrate each monthly (or weekly) victory!

2.  Find time in your busy scheduleIt’s easy to forget about your resolutions with every day life catching up to you. Whether it’s work, classes, family, your social life, etc.; make a few days every month to reassess your goals and make sure you’re sticking to them.

3.  Don’t let failure stop youIf there is one thing we’ve learned as college students, it’s that failure is inevitable. But you take it with a grain of salt and learn a lesson from it.

4.  Limit your list of resolutions to an amount that is achievableIt’s 12:01 am on January 1st and you may have made a list of 20 resolutions in the heat of the moment. But let’s be realistic here. You have many more years to come; to keep focus and achieve those resolutions you need to weed out the ones that are most important to you this year.
