Name: Natalie Weaver
Major: Double major in English with an emphasis on Secondary Education and Women and Gender Studies
HC: Hey Natalie Thanks for talking with us! Where are you from?
Natalie: I’m from this tiny mining town called Nevada City, which is about an hour north of Sacramento.
HC: What made you want to be an English and WGS double major?
Natalie: For the huge paycheck. But in all seriousness, I absolutely adore the subjects and the amount of human connection deeply involved in them. No matter what I end up doing, I want to somehow be making a positive impact in others lives.
HC: What types of things are you involved with on campus?
Natalie: Oh gosh, I am a member of Verdot Village Council, a part of SSU’s branch of U.R.G.E. (United for Reproductive and Gender Equity, I play some intramural soccer, and am a cast member in Vagina Monologues. I am also a new hire to the Adventure Program’s Low Ropes Course staff.
HC: Vagina Monologues was amazing! What did you take away from it?
Natalie: It was an absolutely amazing experience! I feel so honored that I got to be a part of this meaningful production that benefits Verity, Sonoma County’s only Rape Crisis Center surrounded by this strong community of women. I can’t wait to start again with this girl gang next year.
HC: What do you do in the little amount of free time you have?
Natalie: Free time? I love getting outside to hike and hanging out with friends. I like goofing off, drawing, and attempting yoga.
HC: Favorite place to eat off campus?
Natalie: Amy’s, I can’t get enough of their veggie burgers!
HC: Any advice for incoming freshman wanting to get involved?
Natalie: Take whatever it is you’re passionate about and seek out others who share your interest. More likely than not there’s a club or organization at Sonoma State of people who share that common interest, but don’t be afraid to jump out of your comfort zone. If it sounds even mildly interesting check it out because it could end up making your college experience.
HC: Do you know what you want to do you after graduation?
Natalie: That’s still up in the air. I have hopes to either work in education or as a librarian. As a daughter, granddaughter, and niece of teachers I’ve grown up with the belief that there’s a lot of power in education. It creates worlds of new possibilities. While education should be seen as a right, it is also such a privilege and I want to be a part of it. I think it’d be a unique and wonderful opportunity to work with nonprofit education programs that serve to bolster education for girls.
HC: Favorite thing about Sonoma State?
Natalie: The size of the campus creates a more intimate feeling. Walking around the school you can recognize faces in a crowd, which it makes it seem more like a community.
HC: You have an awesome sense of style! Where do you get it from?
Natalie: That’s so sweet of you to say. The majority of my clothing is from thrift shops, it’s vintage or retro. I tend to be really into ‘90s clothing.
