My Weekend Started Off Rocky, But It Can Always Be Saved

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sonoma chapter.

Have you ever had a bad day that you thought would turn into a terrible weekend? Well for me mine started on Friday. I had been planning all weekend to spend all day Friday driving up and down the coast with my friends. We were making the plans of places we wanted to stop on our way to nowhere and I was getting very excited. I told my friends we could leave right after I got off work on Friday around one o’clock and would have the whole day to drive. They all agreed on the plan and it was finalized. When Friday rolled around I rushed through work so I could get off early. At twelve thirty I called my friends and told them I was ready to leave. They replied that plans had changed and they found something better to do. I had been ditched. I was furious that they could just abandon me like that. My day was ruined. After a few hours of self-pity I met up with my family, went to a yard sale, and had an amazing dinner…things were shaping up.

On Saturday I was headed to the river. My friends picked me up and we drove to Guerneville. We took some snacks, hula-hoops, a Frisbee, and blankets. We set up our spot near some other people and laid our blankets out. We immediately began snacking on our fruit and chips. When we were done we headed to the water and threw a Frisbee. After we were winded and sat back down my roommate asked me if we wanted to drive an hour away for a bon fire at her friends house, so we packed up the car and headed for the bonfire. There was people, music, slack-lines, and a hot tub. We had an absolute blast. This was my first spontaneous adventure ever and it was exhilarating.

Sunday came around and we packed our bags for the beach. The weather was beautiful. After eating our sandwiches with chips and dip we jumped in the water several times. Each time coming out of the water—chilled to our bones. After the sun dried the ocean water off our bodies, and the salt was the only thing left, we collected small rocks of all colors. This was the most meditative part of the day. We played paddleball for hours and did some beach yoga to finish our time there. We got washed up and were immediately off for a barbeque. The food was endless and the sangria was refreshing. We ate, drank, and played for several hours with great company. Finally we ended the night hot tubing and drinking wine. The weekend started out lousy and lonely, and turned out to be filled with friends and family and fun.

Hi I'm Ari. I love all things nature. There is beauty all around us, we just have to look to really see it. I love anything yoga, cheese, crystals, hula hooping, eating and traveling.

She grew up in southern California, and even though she misses the warm beach, she really enjoys living in wine country in northern CA. She has always had a passion for writing and is so grateful that Her Campus allows her to share that love and encourage others to join in the fun.
