An Open Letter To My Mom For Mother’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMCVT chapter.

Dear Mom,

Words cannot begin to describe how lucky I am to have been given such an intelligent, caring, easy going and beautiful mother. I am so grateful for everything that we have been able to do together. I could not have asked for a better role model and a better best friend.

Thank you for EVERYTHING that you have done for me and continue to do for me. From driving me to practices and sometimes literally having to drag me out of the car, to having spontaneous trips to New York to see shows, to sending me good morning and goodnight texts, and sending me care packages when you know I’m missing home. You know me so well and without me having to say a single word, you know exactly how I’m feeling. You will always be my first call when I’m having a tough time and I know that no matter what I can always confide in you. Thank you for singing with me to the radio and for always singing For Good with me (of course letting me sing Elphaba’s part every time). Thank you for always making me laugh when you know I’m on the verge of tears. Thank you for always encouraging me to do my best and for believing in me. I’m still absolutely astonished that you managed to get to all but two swim meets my entire freshman year. I know that I would not be as successful without you standing behind me and being my biggest fan.

But one of the things that I admire most about you is that not only have you looked out for me, but you have also opened yourself to all of my friends at school and my friends from home. Your welcoming personality makes people gravitate towards you. I don’t know how you do it, but through everything you manage to keep a smile on your face. Your ability to listen without judgment and genuinely care for every single person that you have ever met is absolutely incredible. People so often overlook everything that you do. Who else is CRAZY enough to create a class that offers 8 casts so that everyone gets the chance to have a lead in a musical? You’ve worked so hard to make everyone feel included because you care so much about making people feel accomplished. I’m sure that the day you became a mother you were apprehensive as to what challenges were to come, but at every single turn you handled it with effortlessness and ease. I hope that with everything that you have taught me I will be able to have the same amount of success that you have had. I hope that I can one day make people feel successful and genuinely cared about. I love you so much Mom. Happy Mother’s Day!

Love always,

Patty
