Food Lovers Guide to Thanksgiving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMCVT chapter.

Its that blessed time of year again and this is not a drill, so it’s time to prepare. This isn’t just any holiday; it’s freaking Thanksgiving. A whole holiday dedicated to feasting and being thankful and as college students, we have a lot to be thankful for. Lucky for you, you have a fine food lover such as myself to help you make it through the day one bite at a time, so let’s get down to the feasting of this fine day.

The Morning: If you’re a POS like me, you probably didn’t manage to make that Turkey Trot your mom signed you up for. It’s okay, we go to a Catholic school and God will forgive you! I suggest taking a quick lap around the dinner table to repent for your sins.

Breakfast:The big meal may be later in the day, but it’s a whole day of feasting so don’t skip out on the most important meal of the day. Make yourself a bowl of cereal or be the hero of the fam and take a trip to dunks, the world is your oyster. Also don’t forget to watch at least part of the parade or you really are a POS and God will not forgive you (JK)

Lunch: Alright the blessed time is coming. Time to prep your stomach for ultimate fullness, but don’t skip out on some nice apps. That cheese plate is not going to eat itself and you best know your aunt put her blood, sweat, and tears into that phenomenal dip. Eat enough to lightly satisfy your hunger, but not enough to ruin your dinner.

Dinner time: Feast! Feast! Feast!: Turkey! Gravy! Potatoes! Stuffing! Bread!!! I myself am a picky eater but still feel obligated to consume the classics. Ya gotta on Thanksgiving. The first time around I get everything as possible, and the second time around (don’t lie and say you don’t go for seconds) I get my all time favs which consists of a lot of meat and bread. Thanksgiving is a time for no breaks and baby you better be CRUISING!

Post Feast: The main feast might be over, but there is still dessert, which I personally believe is the most important meal of the day. So you have to prep, and by that I mean a post din nap because that feast will surely put you in a food coma.

Dessert: Pies on pies on pies and they’re all for you. Apple, pumpkin, Boston cream and more! And don’t just stop there, top those delights with some ice cream and other key players at the dessert table. At my thanksgiving, these usually include brownies and Oreo truffles. Just remember: dessert doesn’t go straight to the belly, it goes straight to the heart.

Happy feasting ;)
