11 Things I Wish I Had Known Before Coming To Collge

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMCVT chapter.

Freshman year of college is both exhilarating and terrifying. For most people, it is the first time that they are living away from home, and although the freedom is endless, at the end of the day, sometimes having your mom tell you what to do is exactly what you need. Here’s what I wish I had known before coming to college.

1. You will probably have no idea what’s going on for a long time, and that’s OK.

2. The first boy you meet is more than likely NOT your soul mate.

3. Don’t be afraid to say what’s on your mind.

4. It’s OK to do things on your own and explore by yourself.

5. Your parents are going to give you advice, and later in time, you will wish that you had taken it.

6. If you don’t want to go out, you don’t have to, but you may suffer from FOMO.

7. You may not talk to your friends from home every single day, but they will always be your friends.

8. Don’t be afraid to say no.

9. Sometimes you just need a good cry session with some ice cream.

10. Sweatpants are socially acceptable and in fact encouraged.

11. Whatever is bothering you today will be irrelevant in a year, so don’t worry about it too much.
