5 Things That Don’t Matter After High School

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SLU chapter.

High school.

For some of us, when we hear those words, we think back to our fondest memories: homecoming dances, football games, parties. For others, we recall nothing more than rumors, ridiculous dress codes, and cliques. But whether they were the best years of your life or the worst, you can’t deny that the high school experience is truly one of a kind. In college, we don’t even think about a majority of the things that we did in high school, and thank God for that. Here’s a list of the top five things that don’t matter anymore after high school graduation.

1. Popularity

While high school may have been all about how many people you had at your lunch table, there are no cliques in college, and the concept of popularity doesn’t really exist anymore. What matters more is being surrounded by genuine people who love and support you.

2. Standardized Test Scores

You spent months agonizing over them in high school. Once you’re in college, you won’t even remember what your score was.

3. What You Wear

After you graduate, you no longer need to worry about wearing the latest designs and fashions, because 99 percent of the time after it you’re wearing an oversized t-shirt anyway.

4. Gym Class

Whether you ruled gym class or despised it, it doesn’t exist in college. Nobody cares what level you made it to on the pacer.

5. Your High School Crush

You’re probably not even in contact anymore with that person that you spent weeks crying into your locker over because they didn’t like you back. Even though you thought you never would, you’ve moved on.

That’s the thing about high school, as well as in life in general. You move on. All of the things that you thought you would never get over, you do. Whether you feel on top of the world or at the lowest point imaginable, nothing lasts forever. Everything that seems important now might not even matter in the future. And just like high school, it will be over before you know it.
